Exclamation mark
[edit]Hello. Can somebody add an exclamation mark making the title "Bubblegum Splash!" as this is how they named themselves. I don't know how to change the title of an article. Many thanks Indiepapa (talk) 10:07, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- No problem, I've requested the rename at Wikipedia:Requested_moves/Technical_requests#Uncontroversial_technical_requests. --McGeddon (talk) 10:27, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- ...and that request has been rebuffed, as seen below. It'll need some discussion to decide whether the move should happen. --McGeddon (talk) 14:50, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Bubblegum Splash → Bubblegum Splash! – Per talk page request, band's name includes an exclamation point. – McGeddon (talk) 10:27, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:36, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- @McGeddon:: The added "!" looks like stylization rather than essential spelling. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:38, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- Isn't it that important? The band formed into a newer group; I am proposing a merger as seen below. --George Ho (talk) 18:25, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Merger proposal
[edit]The article should be merged into Jane from Occupied Europe (band), according to this source. --George Ho (talk) 18:25, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
Revised: According to this source, the band changed to Jane from Occupied Europe. As is, the notability of Bubblegum Splash is very low, even when charted, and might fail WP:ANYBIO. If the band did only one EP, then the article may fail WP:BLP1E, the policy that we must follow. The article should be merged into Jane from Occupied Europe (band). George Ho (talk) 20:53, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Looks like there was only one person who was in both bands, which would suggest a merge would be inappropriate. --Michig (talk) 18:46, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- We are discussing notability of each. WP:NMUSIC and WP:BIO would help. --George Ho (talk) 18:50, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- There's no mention of notability as an issue anywhere in your merge proposal. --Michig (talk) 19:40, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- I struck my OP and added revised rationale. George Ho (talk) 20:53, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- I have my doubts about JFOE being sufficiently notable for inclusion. I have the book on the Salisbury scene that might have significant coverage but other than that they weren't really critically or commercially successful and as far as I remember they didn't get a lot of press. Bubblegum Splash! at least had an indie chart hit. --Michig (talk) 19:51, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- "Notability" is an interesting concept when dealing with mid 80's UK indie scene bands as a lot of fans of this genre might argue that releasing albums and having big hits actually dilutes their notability. However, this was an important scene that spawned lots of later (more "notable") developments in music, and Bubblegum Splash! were a small but notable part of it; they had a national indie chart hit, were on a "notable" indie label with a "notable" roster of artists, and have since been included in retrospective releases by another "notable" indie label who seem to regard them as worthy of inclusion in collected histories of the indie genre. It would a shame to dilute or merge this band. Thanks, by the way, McGeddon for helping me over the punctuation question.Indiepapa (talk) 10:11, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
