Georgia Avenue

[edit]

I believe this sentence is wrong: "Georgia Avenue (MD State Highway 97), which originates in Washington, D.C. and ends in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, passes through Brookeville." Google maps shows Georgia Avenue ending in Brookville at Roxbury Mills Road. Also, there doesn't seem to be a Georgia Avenue in Gettysburg, PA. Can anyone verify any of this? --dm (talk) 06:53, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

well, the road doesn't end in Brookville and does go to PA. Georgia is route 97, same road -- if 97 is called Georgia all the way through to PA I don't know. Should be able to tell by googling on a ficticious Georgia Ave mailing address in towns along the way.-- Stbalbach 15:53, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In Montgomery County, the addressing system uses Georgia Avenue (though, it's also designated MD state route 97). Beyond that in Howard County and Carroll County, it's just Route 97 (see address for Bushy Park Elementary School). And, in Pennsylvania, it's obviously not MD state route 97, but PA state route 97. Perhaps we could reword this sentence better, though to make clear that the name "Georgia Avenue" is only used in Montgomery County and the District of Columbia. -Aude (talk | contribs) 16:27, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Madison House

[edit]

I am a resident of the area and pass the Madison House often. I believe that the picture for the Madison House is not the correct building. The real building is gray stone and house other houses next to it.--Rsween1 (talk) 08:09, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I live in the town itself. I believe you're thinking of the Brookeville Academy on High St. The Madison House (aka known as the Bentley House) is on Market St. on the East side of town and on the north side of Market St. It's painted white and (I believe) made of brick. It's a private residence. Mark The Droner (talk) 20:15, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Population

[edit]

I live here and the population is exponentially greater than 120. -PhattyFatt 14:38, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This figure is for the town — what falls within the official town boundaries, and not the broader area known as Brookeville (according to the USPS). -Aude (talk contribs) 19:36, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I live in this town. This sentence has to be incorrect: "In 1920, the town of Brookeville had a population of 3,272." It has to be referring to the Brookeville area as defined by the post office. It's in stark contrast to the table just to the right of the sentence that states the population was 79 in 1920, and a population of 79 within the town boundaries makes perfect sense. So this means the second sentence is misleading too. I'd bet the "advent of the automobile" added to the population rather than took away.

Also, it seems to me a paragraph outlining the subdividing and sale of the Rotter property, and subsequent new houses built on Water St. deserves a mention, since these houses obviously added to the population of the town. A discussion of the newer houses that were built and run along the west side of Georgia Ave / High St on the south side of town seems worthwhile as they also would add significantly to the population. Introduction/History Section

[edit]

In reviewing the article, I noticed the introduction has much of the same information as that listed in the history section. I wondered if the duplicate information should be removed, perhaps from the introduction? I wondered what other editors thought? Thanks--BuzyBody (talk) 16:32, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
