This page should not be speedy deleted as an unambiguous copyright infringement, because... No copyright has been infringed and Noclador has made some excellent additions to Desert War articles recently and wants to turn this section of Operation Compass into an article then link to it. Perhaps you might consider asking him to move it to a sandbox before expunging it?--Keith-264 (talk) 18:07, 27 November 2019 (UTC) Noclador has made some excellent additions to Desert War articles recently and wants to turn this section of Operation Compass into an article then link to it. - They key issue is the copy without attribution .... Hint: anybody but Noclador can remove the speedy but the key thing is to ensure they is attribution of copy of text from one article to another per Wikipedia:RIA ... The unexplained unsummarised content removal was what caught my eye. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 18:14, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
I've imported citations and references from Operation Compass and will add a note here. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 18:25, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
- I've elected to do the attribution stuff to avoid bunging on a Template:CWW notice per WP:RIA at the point I think no one else will address it, somewhat taking the additional personal risk that WP:RIA is easier to mess up on and then cleanly work my way back out of. With the attribution in place peoples are willing to update/replace whatever they want for the betterment of the article, original wording does not have to be maintained. Best wishes to all with this article. Thankyou.Djm-leighpark (talk) 10:11, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
new article (not finished)
[edit]Added under construction to Operation Compass and attributed the test here to an import from the article forming the basis of a new article to be linked to Compass. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 18:28, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
- Rv speedy delete as per suggestion. Keith-264 (talk) 18:29, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
@Keith-264: thank you for saving the article. I am expanding it now. I will focus on the Italian preparations and units involved. The attack I will leave as much as possible the original text, adding only the Italian units where appropriate. Hopefully I will be done by later tonight. I will write you then and if you were so kind to the edit it then for grammar, etc. I would very much appreciate that. Thank you, noclador (talk) 22:17, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for your confidence, I'm in England so will be off to bed soon but I'll have a look in the morning. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 22:22, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Tidied prose, a few typos, metric-imperial conversions auto ed, dupe wl, ref cleaner, used standard headings for this series, BritEng. All suggestive, rv as desired. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 12:22, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Keith-264: Tank you!! Thank you very much for having a look at the article and improving it. I feel much better now that this episode of the Western Desert Campaign is out from the unrelated Siege of Tobruk article. One thing: the books contain dozens of maps... which would be good to add to the articles but the OTRS permission we have from the Italian Army only covers photos published on the army's website. Any chance we can find someone to recreate some of the maps? noclador (talk) 19:19, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- It's been a pleasure, since I got a full-time job my editing has been curtailed but I'm on a break at the moment. Wiki has a map making section but my only involvement with them was unsatisfactory so I don't bother with them. I'll have a look around to see what I can find. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 19:22, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. I can clean up the maps, add the military icons, but the whole hills/roads etc. drawing... don't feel capable of that. For now I will add Regia Aeronautica numbers, as reported from Libya to Rome in December 1940, to the Sidi Barrani article now. Any other battle article we should expand? noclador (talk) 19:30, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

OrBat
[edit]@Keith-264: I just realized that the full 10th Army OrBat is at Battle of Sidi Barrani instead of at the more fitting Operation Compass... should we put it there? or create its own article for the order of battle and then link from the various battles to it? (at Sidi Barrani only half of the 10th was destroyed, the rest at Bardia) Montanari also has a detailed OrBat for the WDF. noclador (talk) 19:35, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- I think that's a really good idea. If the OOB is long and detailed, a separate article would be good but I'd put it into Compass first to see how it looks. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 19:43, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
