Reorganization

[edit]

I've (for now) moved this article to Breathwork (New Age). The article for "breath work" in general is Conscious breathing. I propose we move the material on Holotropic breathing there, as it predates the New Age by a few years and Grof was a serious researcher, though involved with psychedelics. This article should be restricted to Grof / Orr's forms of breathwork and their New Age successors, as documented in the further reading I've added. As a side note, I actually met Orr in California in the early '90s. He seemed desperate to recruit me to his "rebirthing" beliefs - even offering me a free session with one of his acolytes. I took him up on the offer, followed the acolyte's instructions with the grand result of - nothing happened. The acolyte tried to explain this as being due to my breath being too controlled - I guess I was supposed to diverge from the instructions? Anyway, my conclusion at the time was (and still is): Orr was a nut. Skyerise (talk) 22:34, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I looked into Holotropic breathwork more and found that Grof taught it at Esalen, which pretty much by definition makes it "New Age". So it should also stay here. New material on Breathwork outside of New Age connotations should for now go at Conscious breathing - it should probably also summarize Breathwork (New Age) and cover the connections with all the articles listed at the temporary dab page Breathwork.

Once it's main article compliant, we could discuss whether to rename "Conscious breathing" to "Breathwork" or not. I think I'm currently undecided. Skyerise (talk) 22:55, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good move. Bon courage (talk) 23:47, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
