This isn't a gossip column

[edit]

Wikipedia doesn't do, "Ooh, look who he's dating at the moment!" A few photos of this guy kissing and hanging out with Sam Smith doesn't amount to encyclopedic content and certainly doesn't make them partners, as one editor labeled Smith. Everyone, please wait till there's an established relationship. Largoplazo (talk) 00:36, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Brandon and Sam have been confirmed as a couple, including dates for when they started dating and when they broke up, in multiple publications. I'm not sure why this isn't a part of his page? It's not anymore gossip than similar dating history being listed for opposite-sex couples. I'm not saying this to argue, I'm adding this as a pre-emptive reply to anyone trying to remove Flynn's confirmed dating history. Darren.enlight (talk) 17:45, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Joeyconnick Wikipedia does reference dating history. An example I recently came across: Taylor Swift's page has a reference to her dating Jake Gyllenhaal. I don't see the difference... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Darren.enlight (talkcontribs) 21:58, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Moreover, them dating is mentioned on Sam's page, so what reason can there be for erasing it from Brandon's? Darren.enlight (talk) 22:01, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Darren.enlight, the answer is no. I don't know what's on Taylor Swift's page, but what you have here is verified to a gossip magazine--and on top of that you are edit warring. Drmies (talk) 01:47, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Drmies IDK what edit warring is? But whatever the definition, I don't think I was engaged in that, because I didn't simply change someone else's edit, I started a conversation about it. It's that person that so far hasn't replied (I'll tag them here again later). But I put forward a question, if dating history is mentioned on other Wikipedia pages of celebs, including Brandon's own ex (that means I linked to more than one example of this, it's not about Taylor Swift specifically), why is it being erased on this particular bio? I have yet to get a good answer because (1) while Joeyconnick claims there's a Wikipedia policy that says not to mention dating, I checked the policy they referred to and no, that policy does not say "do not mention dating". This is also evident from the examples of dating history being on more than one Wikipedia page that I brought up; (2) It was mentioned that Sam Smith confirmed his relationship with Brandon in Sep 2017 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which most definitely is not a gossip magazine, it was also mentioned on Pink News, which is a site dedicated to news about the LGBTQ community. It was also brought up in People Magazine, which isn't exactly a gossip rag. Where it conducts and publishes exclusive interviews with celebs, such as in the case of their interview with Sam Smith, it is a reliable source.

Lastly, I also added that Brandon is considered an activist with the LGBTQ community and I brought an interview with him that mentions him as such, that was removed as well. Why?

Darren.enlight (talk) 15:28, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Drmies and Joeyconnick, I am assuming good will on your parts, which is why I am trying to engage in a dialogue, rather than simply reverting back to the version that has the information about Sam Smith, Brandon's publicly acknowledged ex, plus the information about him being an activist. I have yet to hear a good reason why information that is included in other living people's biographies is being removed from Brandon's. There is nothing in the Wikipedia policy quoted by Joeyconnick that explicitly prohibits mentioning official dating history, not in the text itself and also not in how it's implemented on this site, as I've demonstrated by bringing two counter-examples to the claim that mentioning dating history is prohibited. Either way, this also doesn't justify removing the information about Brandon being an activist, backed up by an interview he gave himself about being an activist for the LGBTQ community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Darren.enlight (talkcontribs) 01:14, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
