Correct common name: Kurrajong
[edit]I was surprised to see the common name as "Lacebark Kurrajong" in this article. In Australia, all the botanical references I know list Brachychiton populneus simply as "Kurrajong", and maybe additionally as "Black Kurrajong" or "Forest Kurrajong" (reference: Rainforest Trees of Mainland South eastern Australia, A.Floyd, 1989). Calling B.populneus "Lacebark Kurrajong" is certainly a misnomer. B.discolor is also called "Lace Bark Tree" or "Lace Kurrajong", and I think there has been some confusion over common names between the two species of Brachychiton, so I'm proceeding with correcting the common name in the article. Please let me know if anyone is unhappy with this, and I'll provide a list of extensive references to support the correction to the common name.
Also, I've never heard of B.populneus referred to as a "Bottle Tree" in Australia. In Australia, Bottle Tree is usually specific to B.rupestris, but I'll leave changes on that for now, but will come back and change that if it's not substantiated by a reputable Australian botanical reference. User John Moss, 29.6.07.
Just going through the links at the bottom of the article, it appears that it's an overseas horticultural misnomer - including "bottle tree". How do we handle this in Wikipedia? Do we go with the correct use of name in Australia (country of origin), including the standard name in academic use, or misnomers and misinformation OS - even if the misnomers are popularized? Personally I favour the correct name usage from the country of origin, especially where the name is also academically used, but maybe we point out the misnomer OS. user John Moss, 29.6.07.

Sterculia diversifolia
[edit]This [1906](http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks09/0900091h.html) book quotes: "The best bark for this purpose was that of the currajong tree (Sterculia diversifolia)."
Is this an archaic name for the kurrajong tree, or a mistake, or what?J1812 (talk) 16:17, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
