The article states that the disadvantage of book music is the size it takes to store music, but book music was considered a far better alternative in those respects when compared to other program systems for automatically playing musical instruments of the day (particularly the barrel), because of its size and shape, was much easier to exchange in the instrument, and thus gave much more variation.
