2005 move
[edit]This page used to be occupied by what is now at Bones (instrument). At that point in time (February 16, 2005), all (save one) the inbound links were miscoded links to bone, using bones instead of bones. I decided that since the mistake was very likely to happen again, the instrument is little-known, and it is confusing to a reader to land there by accident, it was best moved. -- Phyzome is Tim McCormack 02:36, 2005 Feb 17 (UTC)
Fold to singular
[edit]This page should probably be folded into the Bone_(disambiguation) page -- the dab guidelines suggest that variations in singular vs. plural words ought to be on the same dab. jonofiddle (talk) 15:12, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Bones Redirect to Bones (TV series) vs. Bone
[edit]I reviewed all of the pages that link to Bones. A few pages needed to be changed from Bones to Bones. I have made these changes. Most of the pages needed to be changed from Bones to Bones (TV series). I have also made these changes. Since most Bones were trying to link to Bones (TV series), I am changing the Bones redirect to Bones (TV series). Mr.Atoz (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
- I have reverted this article to a previous version of its contents -- as a redirect to Bones (disambiguation). While when you reviewed the article in November most of the links to "Bones were trying to link to Bones (TV series)", that does not necessarily imply that this should have then been made into a redirect to that article. The appropriate guideline to follow is WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Reviewing the history of this page (and its deleted version), it has been back and forth repeatedly between the TV show and the singular Bone more than once. This alone makes me hesitant to believe that there really is a single primary topic. Regardless, for now I have removed all article space links to this page and directed them to the appropriate target. I believe this to be a case where there is a conflict between primary usage of the term (TV) and the primary long-term significance of the term (anatomy), and so any decision on the primary topic should be determined by a consensus of more than a single editor. VernoWhitney (talk) 00:45, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- I am OK with the Bones redirect to Bones (disambiguation). Mr.Atoz (talk) 17:09, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Bones → Bones (disambiguation) – Although I see that this was discussed before, it was without a lot of people opining. I think that, despite some popular culture topics, the real primary meaning of this word is the same today as it was fifty or a hundred years ago, and as it will be fifty or a hundred years from now - the anatomical meaning. - WPGA2345 - ☛ 01:03, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Support - well teeth redirects to tooth, lungs, eyes, ears, feet, hands, legs, nostrils to singular likewise. Can't see any reason why bones should be an exception. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:07, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Support: It seems pretty obvious that this term has a primary topic, and it's not the television show (which has a name presumably derived from the anatomical meaning). —BarrelProof (talk) 05:38, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Question. Is the implied secondary condition of this request to make Bones a redirect to Bone? Otherwise, this request is unclear or missing a move. Steel1943 (talk) 07:21, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- If what I asked is the case, I Support. Steel1943 (talk) 16:03, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

- Support. Bones should redirect to Bone, naturally. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:39, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Support the listed move and the unstated goal of redirecting Bones to Bone. The latter is surely the correct primary topic. None of the others are. 168.12.253.66 (talk) 14:28, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Support Plurals almost always should redirect to their singular forms and almost never to disambiguation pages; the only time when Topic and Topics should be different is if Topics has a specific meaning of its own and needs a separate article, e.g. Latin and Latins, or when Topics is used in an ambiguous fashion but never as a plural of Topic, e.g. Earth and Earths (a redirect to a disambiguation page). "Bones" is just almost always used as the plural of "Bone", so it should redirect there. Nyttend (talk) 03:48, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
- Support, bone is the clear and enduring primary topic of the term. bd2412 T 16:50, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
- Support per Nyttend. Plurals almost always should redirect to their singular forms, especially with a word as common as this. -- Ohc ¡digame!¿que pasa? 03:02, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
- Strong support. Per everyone. Bones is a plural term of Bone. ApprenticeFan work 10:38, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Multiple Blue Links in Disambiguation
[edit]Bkonrad (talk · contribs) I did not know the policy about not including multiple blue links in disambiguation pages. Thanks for letting me know. I found the policy here: WP:DABSTYLE. However, I see it violated all the time, so it was easy to think that I had been following policy. Example: Bushwhackers (disambiguation), Red Rock, and Red Wolf (disambiguation) for example. Thanks, I will fix my others. dawnleelynn(talk) 22:17, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
I'm tired, those examples weren't good ones...the point is that I get the rule now. Thanks...dawnleelynn(talk) 22:33, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
I searched for "Bones"
[edit]The old redir was going to "bone", while separate db pages existed for "bone" and for "bones"
I have redir'd to the correct db page so that anyone typing "bones" in the search will not end up on the "bone" article. Chaosdruid (talk) 17:36, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
- That was WP:MALPLACED. Please submit a new WP:Requested move to reverse the outcome of the previous RM (see above). – wbm1058 (talk) 20:44, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Bones → Bones (disambiguation) – Per the RM discussion on the talk page in 2013[1] it doesn't seem like anything much has changed. Also note that the edit history of Bones (disambiguation) should be moved back to Bones. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:54, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

- @Crouch, Swale and Narky Blert: queried move request Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:32, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- When I found Bones on 13 January 2019, there was a WP:MALPLACED error: Bones -> Bones (disambiguation). I performed a WP:ROUNDROBIN move. That error should not be reinstated. The question of whether Bones should be a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to Bone, and the DAB page be at Bones (disambiguation), is outside the scope of this discussion. Narky Blert (talk) 17:17, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- Yes there shouldn't be a WP:MALPLACED redirect but we will need to keep the 2013 discussion currently at Talk:Bones#Requested move with the DAB page and its probably desirable to retain the edit history currently at Bones (disambiguation). Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:21, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

- The edit histories of Bones and Bones (disambiguation) are very WP:Parallel histories and very unlike. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:27, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- Support - so bones can redirect to bone per WP:RPURPOSE:"Plurals", and to revert Narky Blert's undiscussed page move/swap. Fixing a WP:MALPLACED by doing a page move still should come through WP:RM. -- Netoholic @ 04:46, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard: I wasn't requesting a history merge, I was merely suggesting putting the edit history currently at "Bones (disambiguation)" back to "Bones" and the edit history currently at "Bones" back to "Bones (disambiguation) (in other words revering the ROUNDROBIN move), unlike the Harris, Outer Hebrides/Harris, Scotland move the 2013 RM was clearly solely over primacy of bones and it was closed with unanimous consensus in favour and apart from twice when it was briefly changed to point to the DAB page in 2018 it has pointed to Bone since the 2013 RM. So while the burden does generally lie on those wanting a PT, it shouldn't have been changed against the unanimous consensus in 2013. Crouch, Swale (talk) 09:05, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

- @Netoholic, Crouch, Swale, and Narky Blert: The edit history of Bones (disambiguation) seems to be composed entirely (or nearly so) of redirects. The edit history of Bones is a disambig page. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:29, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard: - that seems to be a result of a badly-considered and undiscussed round robin swap on Jan 13. That swap should be undone - moving the disambiguation page history to Bones (disambiguation), and the redirect page history put back at Bones. -- Netoholic @ 10:44, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
- Support, and redirect Bones to Bone as a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT tagged R from plural.
- The page histories are difficult to disentangle. It seems that for a long time, Bones was a DAB page at that basename.
- My move of 13 January 2019 was a clean WP:ROUNDROBIN swap; See this extract from my contribution history. Narky Blert (talk) 11:19, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
