BLP Issues
[edit]OK, there has been a BLP thread opened by a party who appears to represent (or acting on behalf of) the subject's interests. As there has been no discussion, and I think I can glean the jist of the complaint (though no specifics were mentioned) I'd like to start point by point:
- The incident at the mall. There was no conviction. It is unclear whether Gonzalez made a deal, and why. Should it be included? Why or why not? And to what extent? Opinions please: David Able 00:43, 19 February 2011 (UTC) the incident at the mall did not result in any conviction. it was dismissed and is currently in process of being expunged.Lindag3333 (talk) 01:45, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Everything after and including "earlier in the year" should be deleted, until someone provides exceptional sources that justify this exceptionally random material being included in this biography of a living person - that's my opinion. I was about to delete it myself, until I noticed the NYT was supposedly a "reliable source". Maybe it's a reliable source for everything except basketball? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 01:01, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
I've removed some material that was largely not supported by the cited sources. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 01:14, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- I support your above comments and the changes to the article. Hopefully this discussion will serve as a base for consensus if the issue arises again. David Able 16:42, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
"Gonzalez received his seventh technical of the season with 11 minutes to go.[3] The next day, Gonzalez was fired. School officials stated that despite the team's on-court improvement, he was not a good representative for Seton Hall. Seton hall University president Monsignor Robert Sheeran said the events of the previous night were "a crystallization of all that was really wrong" with the program under Gonzalez' watch."[4]o David Able.
thank you, the changes are better, but some of the issues still exist. this last sentence should be removed for its subjective and damaging nature. It is opinion, it is not true. You don't see things like this under biographies of other coaches and many were fired for much worse issues than this. It is because you are accepting submissions from people who are deliberately putting malicious and slanderous things on here. If you look at my talk page you will see an example of this. These are people who are only interested in disparaging Bobby Gonzalez.
This is important as background and should be in the bio: The program actually improved under Gonzalez' watch, rose in the standings every year and rose in the win column every year. (the only reference to the firing should be that the school decided to go in a different direction due to longstanding disagreements between the coach and the athletic director.') As for the mall incident: that is being expunged and therefore should not be written anywhere. I can contribute biographical material that you should have from his actual biography written by Seton Hall University and available in their school magazines and programs.
This should be added in place of what you have.
Gonzalez, came to Seton Hall after a tremendous seven year run as the head coach of Manhattan college. He led the Jaspers to four 20 win seasons and two NCAA Tournaments. His team won the MAAC regular season championship three times and a tournament title twice.
Gonzalez received numerous accolades, being named NABC District 2, USBWA and NYBCA Division One Coach of the Year as well as Metropolitan Coach of the Year two years running. Gonzalez served as an assistant coach for the Gold Medal winning 22 and under United States team of the World University Games held in Turkey in 2005.Gonzalez served as a member of the NCAA ethics Committee and as a television and radio analyst for the NCAA Tournament and NBA Draft." as for my being related to the subject, yes I am. Who should contribute to a biography with actual facts and knowledge of the person - a stranger who had to compete against him and has his own reasons for wanting him smeared? What exactly is the purpose of Wikipedia? To repeat gossip? I don't understand why this is not corrected.
We are very anxious to have this corrected. Thank you so much for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lindag3333 (talk • contribs) 18:39, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- The policies spelled out at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons apply to material posted by editors in talk space as well as in article space. User:Lindag3333 comes here asking for protection under this policy, but then makes serious, unsourced charges against Pat Hobbs and Pete Thamel. This is inappropriate, and I would suggest that User:Lindag3333 revise the above comments to extend the same rights to other living persons that are being claimed for the subject. --Arxiloxos (talk) 01:52, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Wording Issues
[edit]I think that generally the entire article needs to be reworded, especially the part on Seton hall. Over all most of the article sounds like a news paper article instead of a Wikipedia article. @ d \/\/ | | |Talk 00:53, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
