NPOV and Sources
[edit]If you need someone to back you up, I'm there for you Reyk. I made some edits to the article to bring it into NPOV. One line I removed "Unhappiness over Iraq war and the President's unpopularity may also hurt Nussle." because this won't matter in the primary, only the general (if at all). The GOP primary voters don't have a problem with their president. - Jaysus Chris 03:59, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Most of this article needs to be properly sourced. Calling him a businessman is also probably not a good idea; it would be much better to say what business ventures he was involved in and in what manner he was involved. Using his full name in the intro would also be a good idea.
"Vander Plaats is considered to be very conservative." This is personal opinion and very vague. How about mentioning what subjects he takes a conservative stance on, and a reference to a news article that describes him and his positions? His own website is not a good source.
Also, an article summarizing the results of the 2002 election should be cited.
"He is again considered the underdog in 2006." By whom? Cite a source.
"As a business leader, Vander Plaats does not have any governmental experience." Very broad statement, probably it would be better to say that he has not previously held public office.
"His campaign spins this as a positive..." Spin is a very negative term, reflecting bias.
"...will give the Democrats a lot of ammunition..." extremely vague. Be specific: what subjects will he face criticism on?
The sources you cite are terrible. See Wikipedia:Reliable sources
The last paragraph is not supported by citations and is very badly written, as well as showing clear bias.
I'm going to see if I can find some reliable news articles on this subject, and then I'll rewrite this. I have reservations as to whether this man is notable enough to be on Wikipedia, but the quality of this article concerns me far more than its subject. Tenebrous 06:29, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
- I edited the first half of this article for NPOV. After I get done with the rewrite, I'd like to expand on this article. In that light, I would like to find a good article on a minor political figure to model this after, as well as some more sources, especially on his background. His site can serve as a source for talking about his issues, as long as they are presented as being his claims and not Wikipedia's. Example: Among the issues that BVP says are important to him are stimulating economic growth, improving education, etc. Tenebrous 12:25, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
- Good. Thank you. - Jaysus Chris 05:25, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- Relating to the sources aspect of this discussion, I checked out the video clip that is cited as the source for Vander Plaats' stance on the Gay Marriage decision, and the video interview does not mention gay marriage in the slightest. I'm new to editing, so I didn't want to take it out myself, but I though I should bring it to light. Rattfynx —Preceding undated comment added 05:56, 20 January 2010 (UTC).
POV tag
[edit]I added the POV tag to this article, I'll remove it when I finish editing the article, unless someone else has POV issues with my version. If that happens, the POV tag will remain until a consensus is reached. Tenebrous 12:15, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
- I appreciate the work you're putting into this. Reyk 09:23, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Nussle vandalism
[edit]Jim Nussle's trolls are at work, vandalizing articles to suit their partisan ends. Nussle's adultery with Karen caused his divorce, and the whole thing was very public knowledge at the time, quite negatively reported in the Iowa press. This is going to be an issue, whatever his flacks think, and the details will be part of the wikipedia articles. --FourthAve 06:33, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- You are paranoid. - Jaysus Chris 07:03, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- I'm a liberal from Alaska, if you think I've got the slightest interest in whitewashing either candidate, you're mistaken. Jim Nussle's divorce issues are Jim Nussle's issues, if you're going to mention them in a non-cursory manner here you're going to have to present evidence that this is actually going to be a campaign issue (i.e. something that actually belongs in a Bob Vander Plaats article). Furthermore, it's very uncivil to refer to other editors as "flacks" and "trolls"--you should assume good faith. Also, you should read WP:VAND, as your definition of vandalism does not appear to match the one Wikipedia uses.
Apologies for not finishing the edit I started, but I've gotten tangled in an edit war over Dianetics. It's in mediation right now, we'll see what shakes out. I've still got the sources for this saved, so whenever I can I'll get back to this. Have fun Tenebrous 16:35, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Notability
[edit]While I'm not convinced this article should be deleted entirely, it needs to be drastically pared down. Arbor832466 (talk) 21:57, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Why? It has an intro section and a section on his two recent notable activities. This seems quite appropriate to me - in fact, a short section on his run for Gov/LG in 2006 might be appropriate as well. Sure, it's longer than the articles of other Iowa politicians, but that's only because those articles are still waiting to be de-stubbed. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 19:31, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Add section on "The Marriage Vow"?
[edit]I don't know enough to do it myself, but Vander Plaats has been promulgating a document called "The Marriage Vows", and having success in getting Republican presidential candidates to sign:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/08/michele-bachmann-rick-san_n_893523.html
Adding a section on this, or perhaps even a whole article, would be important. (I've already added this to the "Requested Articles" page.] -- Dan Griscom (talk) 11:52, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
- Agree, should be added. AnonMoos (talk) 10:50, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Add section on the faith based initiative controversy?
[edit]For many years, Vander Plaats' group The Iowa Family Policy Center received the majority of it's funding from the federal "Faith Based Initiative", despite Vander Plaats' repeated calls for smaller government.

[edit]Unregistered user 205.221.255.30 has committed numerous acts of vandalism against this article. Can an admin check into putting a block on this IP address?Jsniessen (talk) 14:27, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
I went through history edit by edit on this user (205.221.255.30), and caught several more instances not yet removed. I believe all of it has now been reverted.Jsniessen (talk) 15:41, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
