Is Dewalt Power Tools really owned by Black & Decker???? I always thought they were separate. --Tmajor 02:04, 20 August 2005 (UTC)
when did they purchase dewalt? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.120.56.108 (talk • contribs)
Dewalt is a registered trademark of Black and Decker, first created between 1966-1968 as a new professional line of portable power tools (they introduced a line of heavy duty radial arm saws). So to answer your question yes Dewalt was created by Black and Decker. Tim 01/23/2006
Black and Decker didn't create Dewalt. Dewalt was a seperate power tool company. It was purchased by Black and Decker in the early 90's or so. Dominic 17:02, 3 August 2006 (UTC) Dewalt was aquired by b&D in 1960 in 1989 they stopped making the Radial arm saw that Dewalt invented.Jeffpiatt 03:20, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Actually Dewalt was purchased by B&D in 1960. At that time they made only radial arm saws. Sometime in the late '70's or early '80's B&D decided to get out of the radial arms saw business, eventually selling to two former exceutives in 1985. [1]
Then in the early '90's B&D needed to rebrand their professional (high end) power tools to differentiate them from the lower end Black & Decker tools. They decided to use the Dewalt name that had been on the shelf for a number of years. Paulinct (talk) 06:09, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Place of Manufacture
Much is made of the location of the early manufacturing plants in the US, Europe, Australia; US plants were closed or consolidated in the 80s, but nothing is said about where the product is made today. Is the manufacturing still done in the US or has it gone to China? Corlyon (talk) 14:27, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
