Threatened
[edit]This is most certainly false, I can say for absolutely certain that bitterroot can be found all over Lemhi and Custer counties in Idaho, and have never heard of it being threatened. When I ate it with a Lemhi Shoshone family, we had no trouble gathering several pounds within a 2-3 acre area. (Side note - It really deserves its name, it's not exactly the most delectable of native flora. Even Cattail tastes better.) Dalrymple 10:09, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Classification
[edit]The German translation of bitterroot ('Bitterwurz') seems to include three species of Lewisiae, namely Lewisia cotyledon, Lewisia nevadensis and Lewisia rediviva. In this case, I propose to mention all three species in the article, or to move this article to Lewisia rediviva. 07:22, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Nutrition
[edit]Aboveground portions of bitterroot are poor in energy and protein value. Nutrient composition of the fresh root per gram dry weight is as follows:
calories 3.87 calcium (mg) 2.35 protein (g) 0.10 iron (mg) 0.33 carbohydrate (g) 0.85 magnesium (mg) 0.74 lipid (g) 0.01 zinc (mg) 0.05 ash (g) 0.01 http://www.fs.fed.us/database/feis/plants/forb/lewred/all.html Norton, H.
