Which Oakland?

[edit]

There are three (count 'em, three) "Oakland"s in Wisconsin. Any idea WHICH he was born in? Badbilltucker 13:15, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can also add 2 more Oakland, Wisconsin-2 unincorporated communities in 2 different counties. Thank you-RFD (talk) 12:27, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No specifics, but according to a SABR bio here, he was born in Oakland, Wisconsin; however, he was went to high school at Fort Atkinson. It can only be conjecture, but I assume, he was born in the closest farm community called Oakland.Neonblak talk - 12:34, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I found an article from the Milwaukee Journal January 29, 1965 about the death of Billy Sullivan. This confirms he was born in Jefferson County in the town of Oakland. I added it to the article. Thank you-RFD (talk) 17:41, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 11 April 2024

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus that the existing title is ambiguous enough as to require a more detailed DAB. An alternate title using "(1900s catcher)" as the DAB was proposed on grounds of WP:NCBASE, but opinions were divided on whether that would convey an appropriate impression of this figure's era of play. I see no consensus on the specific question of Billy Sullivan (baseball, born 1875) vs. Billy Sullivan (1900s catcher), but because of the consensus against retaining the current title, this ends up requiring a WP:NOTCURRENTTITLE close. Accordingly, I'm opting to close in favor of the original proposal: many of the support !voters did not specify a preferred DAB, even after the alternate DAB was proposed, which suggests to me that there's a high level of general contentment around the originally proposed title. @BarrelProof:@Necrothesp:@Crouch, Swale:@Ortizesp:@Joeykai:@Dekimasu: WP:NCBASE asks us to use date of birth disambiguation only as a last resort. Any objection to using the preferred disambiguation as shown under bullet point 4, Billy Sullivan (1900s catcher)? 162 etc. (talk) 22:28, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
