Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedily deleted because... (this is about a song that is well known and is by Ariana Grande who is very well known there are articles about her other songs.) --SoccerfanUsa (talk) 14:51, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think this article should be deleted because this song has recently been released and as time passes, the article will be expanded. Plus, her new album My Everything is coming out in the next few days. Please don't delete this article! Paul Badillo (talk) 15:35, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
- I just found out that the speedy deletion tag has been removed. The article will not be deleted after all! Paul Badillo (talk) 16:16, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

The editors have done a great job so far on the article. I can clearly see quite a bit of time and effort have gone into it. Here are my comments:
- "and featuring American hip hop": should be "features"
- "studio album My Everything (2014)": comma after (2014)
- "midnight on August 12, 2014, however,": semicolon after "however"
- Where did you find this? 和DITOREtails 16:36, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
- "Big Sean and Key Wane and produced": comma after "Wane". I use the oxford comma so I also put commas before the "and" in a series, although this is not mandatory
- "a ballad with instrumentation of a piano, strings and drum machine ": This is awkward phrasing. Instead, put "a ballad with piano, string, and drum machine instrumentation".
- "to decide on what their future troubled relationship is going to be like.": Grammar issues. Should be "to decide what their future, troubled relationship is going to be like."
- "Grande has claimed it to be her ": Odd phrasing. Just say "Grande has claimed it is her"
- ""Best Mistake" earned positive reviews from critics, who praised the song's": Since the song is so new, use present perfect: ""Best Mistake" has earned positive reviews from critics, who have praised the song's"
- "However, response to Big Sean's verse on the track was mixed.": Same here, "However, response to Big Sean's verse on the track has been mixed."
- "It briefly appeared on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 49, and also peaked within the top 50 on other record charts in North America, Europe, and Oceania.": "Briefly" is kind of a weasel word that makes it sound like it was there for 20 minutes. Instead, put, "It peaked on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 49, and within the top 50 on other record charts in North America, Europe, and Oceania."
- "with production, programming and instruments done Big Sean's frequent collaborator Wane. ": Several grammer issues. Should be "with production, programming and instrumentation done by Big Sean's frequent collaborator, Wane."
- "It is a minimal hip-hop piano ballad lament that utilizes instrumentation from strings and a drum machine."This sentences needs to have references for these assertions. Otherwise, it's original research.
- "It is about a couple trying to "make up their minds about the future of their relationship, with deep affection buried underneath their problems."": This opinion need to be attributed to someone in the actual sentence. Like "Paul Smith said..." Review policies WP:SUBJECTIVE, WP:SUBSTANTIATE, and especially WP:ASSERT.
- "I just think the world of him and I'm obsessed": The reader has no clue who "him" is, so replace that word with a name and put brackets ([ ]) around it to show you edited a quote.
- Because this is a good article, I won't fail for this, but the "Production and composition" is a bit on the light side. I would add information about the studio, recording dates, and any more background information possible if you have any desire to take this to FA.
- "Grande first confirmed this song on June 28, 2014": Should be "confirmed the title of the song on..."
- "in its first week landing ": comma after "week"
- "was Micheal Jackson shortly after his death, on the issue": grammar issues. Should be "was Micheal Jackson, shortly after his death, in the issue"
- "debuted at number 49 and ten on the Flanders": I know it's not usual, but "ten" should be "10" because it's in a series with another number that isn't spelled out. Same for "five on the Billboard Greek Digital chart"
- "Response to "Best Mistake" was positive by critics": Sounds weird, and I'm pretty sure is wrong. Instead, "Critical response to "Best Mistake" was positive."
- "a Popmatters Interview Editor": interview editor should be lowercase
- " noted the song presented her R&B roots": Presented? I don't think that word is being used correctly. Can you find another? Like "demonstrated"?
- wikilink Kelly Rowland
- "outstanding verse",": The comma should go INSIDE the quotes
- " in Los Angeles, CA.": spell out California

- The references all look really good, except for EXTREMELY minor formatting typos.
- The pictures are superb as well.
This article, though a little lighter in coverage than I generally like, is basically a good article, especially if the above changes are made. However, I feel like (1) the reason the article is so light in coverage is because the song is so new. Maybe we should give it a bit more time to find its footing; (2) I was still going to pass it (pending the above the changes) however, knowing that it is about to be re-released makes me think that we should wait until all that happens, because it might incite more changes. Basically, it feels "unstable." Though, I would like to get a second opinion.--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 13:31, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- I'm responding to the request for a second opinion. The lead says "and was released at midnight on August 12, 2014, however, it was re-released as Grande's fourth single from the album": so has it actually been re-released now? I don't see any references to this in the body of the article. If it's been re-released, I'd suggested giving the nominator a week or so to add any relevant material to the article to bring it up to date, and to fail the article if that doesn't happen. If it still hasn't been re-released, and no date has been set, then I'd suggest passing it (once the lead is corrected to clarify that) since it may not be released and the article can always be updated if and when it does happen. - Doesn't seem to have been re-released yet. Per your imput, I'm going to go ahead and pass it. Thanks!--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 22:04, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
