Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because the photo has become extremely popular and well-known in a very short amount of time, and is perhaps one of the biggest viral photograph sensations in years.--PlanetDeadwing (talk) 12:32, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because although I am a rather inexperienced editor (So forgive me if my augments are invalid), this articles subject has received attention from major news outlets, like BBC news, not your everyday meme. Popular and notable internet memes like this also have their own articles, so why should this one be any different? --HenryTemplo (talk) 12:55, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

- Paging EEng for better hooks. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:24, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- It brings tears to my eyes to once again know that this old hooker isn't forgotten. I may not be able to give this (or WP in general) my usual level of attention for the next few weeks, but here's an idea for starters: If the article's interested editors scour the sources for more exotic places the photo has appeared, that might give us something to work with. - Is there a way to have some create a meme that can be used freely? --evrik (talk) 17:43, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- New enough, long enough, QPQ done. Passes earwig. Hook 2a cited and in article. No photo. Can we find out if the original image can be used to create meme able to be used on the page? --evrik (talk) 17:43, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- Evrik, You can't put the photo in the DYK, it's a copyrighted image and can only be used in the article per the non free content policy. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:46, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- Isn't there a way to create a meme using the image that can be freely used? If not, why not use a meme as the photo in the article? --evrik (talk) 17:52, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
- Not at all. You could use a recreated meme (off-wiki, I made one up with the Queen II album artwork replacing Freddie Mercury with Bernie), but you'd have to find the copyright holder of the image and credit them, filling out the NFCC template properly (otherwise the image will get deleted). Unfortunately, Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia, and since AFP has not licensed the image under a Creative Commons compatible licence, that's all we can do. Pastiche or parody?
[edit]Should this article describe the various "altered" images as "pastiches" or "parodies"? Your thoughts, please. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:56, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- According to our article on pastiche, it celebrates what it is imitating whereas a parody mocks. Therefore pastiche seems more appropriate to me. P-K3 (talk) 13:27, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- I am not familiar with the word pastiche. For clarity, I'd recommend parody. –Novem Linguae (talk) 14:57, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- Or "pastiche" could just be wikilinked.-- P-K3 (talk) 15:10, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

- "Pastiches" seems like the right word but something tells me Bernie would be fine with either. Levivich harass/hound 06:59, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
