The result of the move request was: Not moved - a point of argument, pageviews only indicate what readers found, not what they were searching for. Mike Cline (talk) 13:54, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

BentonvilleBentonville (disambiguation) – "Bentonville" should redirect to Bentonville, Arkansas, as it is the most viewed place named "Bentonville" by a large margin. Readers looking for the battle is unlikely to be searching for just "Bentonville". sst✈ 10:32, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

However, what matters is what articles people are looking for on Wikipedia. A pageview analysis of both Bentonville, Arkansas and the Battle of Bentonville shows that our readers are about four times more likely to be looking for the AR city than the battle. -- Tavix (talk) 18:11, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's only one of the criteria. Andrewa (talk) 18:53, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Right, and no where does it say that both criteria is necessary to have a primary topic claim. I actually think Bentonville, Arkansas also has the long term significance as well. From the article, it's been an important site since the civil war, and even without the Walmart claim-to-fame, it's still a fairly significant city. Walmart has been HQ'd there for over 50 years with no signs of leaving, which is also "long term" in my mind. -- Tavix (talk) 20:22, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's better. Noted that you think that the Arkansas site has the greater long-term significance. Please note that others disagree.
But more important, that's not enough. To justify the move, we must establish that the Arkansas site is the primary meaning, not just that it's the most popular or significant or even both. It needs to stack up against all other meanings, taken together. In view of the fact that there is controversy even over which site has the best claim to being the primary meaning, that's a very tall order.
The current situation, with the DAB at the undisambiguated name, supposes that there is no primary meaning, and that still seems the logical conclusion to me. Andrewa (talk) 00:17, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure the !supporters have taken into account all the meanings of "Bentonville" taken together - I know I did. The pageviews in particular are clear-cut. Further, the city is the headquarters of one of the largest companies in the world, while the battle is not a particularly well known battle of the U.S. Civil War. It seems pretty clear that there is a primarytopic, and that it is the city. Dohn joe (talk) 02:26, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Whether the battlefield site or Wallmart HQ site has the best claim to being primary seems to be a line call, search likelihood points one way (but that's a bit surprising, perhaps it's just a relatively recent and short-lived popularity?) and enduring significance the other, the battlefield being one of the more significant ones of the American Civil War. Tending to the battlefield I think, which makes it most unlikely that the Wallmart HQ town is primary (which is what move proponents would need to establish). Andrewa (talk) 18:48, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Andrewa. It is by no means obvious that the Arkansas town is the primary topic. The battlefield has enduring long term significance, and therefore confers the same to the town, and indeed has a right to be considered as part of this debate. Disambiguation serves readers best, they're just one click away from all likely targets.  — Amakuru (talk) 10:29, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
