[edit]Even if Baku in 1928 did not belong to the moder Azerbajan, it did belong to it´s predecessor, the Azerbaijan SSR, so she does qualify as being from Azerbajan. She is even listed as an Azerbaijani Jews and you can find a reference here[1]. Please do not remove categories without a reason. Thank you. Uirauna (talk) 22:25, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- I don't dispute the fact that she was born in Azerbaijan. The category "People from Baku" covers her place of birth. I dispute calling a Jewish person who was born and only spent few years in Azerbaijan "Azerbaijani pianist". Being an ethnic Jew qualifies her for the "Jewish classical musicians" category and being a neutralizes US citizen qualifies for the "American classical pianists". What's actually missing from the categories is "Soviet classical pianists", since she spent most of her adult life in Moscow. Lida Vorig (talk) 01:05, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- You can add that categorie without problems, but removing one is the issue. Unless we have a quote where she renounces to her Azerbajani culture and citizenship, we should not remove-ir. Being away from your home country your whole life does not disqualifies you automatically from being from there. Uirauna (talk) 15:34, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- That makes no sense, she does not have an Azerbaijani culture because she left the country when she was 6 years old, and she doesn't have an Azerbaijani citizenship because there were not Azerbaijani citizens at the time of her birth. It was one big happy USSR family. She's Jewish by ethnicity, Soviet by education and nationality, and American by citizenship. And of course we can't forget that she was born in Baku, and that's when the "People from Baku" comes along and puts everything in order. Lida Vorig (talk) 02:42, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- Please provide sources for your arguments, or else they mean nothing. As I said, unless she specifically denies being an Azerbaijani, she was born there and qualifies as such. We can ask for a third opinion if you'd like, but I see no reason why we should remove it and why you make such a strong, yet unfunded, point towards it. Uirauna (talk) 14:05, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
