[edit]

There appears to be quite a bit of opinion creep towards the end of the article. I especially noted:

As if that wasn't enough for Beitar management, fans were enraged in 2004 when Hapoel "Cellcom" Bnei Sakhnin, located in an Arab village in northern Israel and drawing on a mainly Arab talent pool, stunned the nation with a 4:1 victory in the State Cup final over Hapoel "Opel" Haifa. Beitar's incendiary and management-independent fan clubs, notoriously anti-Arab and anti-Muslim, went into action, posting an obituary in the Yediot Akhronot daily in the name of "Israeli football", and engaging in racist chants against Arab players whenever possible, and always against Sakhnin.

It would be helpful to see some sources, especially with the references to Beitar's fan clubs seeming so negative. The only current reference in the article is a fan site (probably not NPOV) and in Hebrew (I believe). .:.Jareth.:. babelfish July 6, 2005 19:57 (UTC)

I completly agree with you. It seems like somone is purposely using this article to make it seem Israelis are complely racist. Until someone shows some actual reputable sources about this I am going to delete the offending passages.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg 19:08, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
This has nothing to do with Israelies being racists (we're not :P) as Beitar's crowd does not represent the israeli nation. They are our shame (although the club is quite good at football). Beitar have the most racist crowd of the major teams, representing the political extreme right side. Rosti Talis 20:50, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but to say that "Beitar's crowd...are our shame" is ridiculous. There's no doubt that most Beitar fans hate Arabs, but other teams' fans do not behave in a better way. Hapoel Tel-Aviv fans were kicked out of the Siroki Brijeg stadium at the UEFA cup 2nd qualifying round (Aug. 16th 2007) - because they lighted torches and burned many chairs, and they have opinions and songs which many Israelis otherwise politically inclined would find disgraceful and shameful. not to mention other shameful acts regardless of politicsl POV (e.g. graffiti on the Mayor of Tel-Aviv's parents' graves after the Osishkin Basketball arena was dismantled).

Neutrality

[edit]

This does not seem neutral: The Beitar Jerusalem Football Club (מועדון כדורגל בית"ר ירושלים; Moadon Kaduregel Beitar Yerushalayyim, also known as Beitar Yerushalayyim) is one of the most controversial and racist sports teams in the Middle East. Beitar Jerusalem is the Israeli football team with the largest following. They play in Teddy Kollek Stadium (capacity c. 23,000) in the Malkha complex in Jerusalem, nicknamed Gehennom ("Hell") for the hostile atmosphere they present to visiting teams and their fans.

It's true though, it is nicknamed "Hell" here in Israel and they are the most racist crowd of the major teams, representing the political extreme right side. This can be justified by the fact the fans refuse the signing of an arab player (I believe that recently there was a report on this matter on Sky News). Rosti Talis 20:50, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To quote the BBC 'Their proudest boast is that an Arab never has and never will play for the club.'

Sounds racist to me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.243.45.71 (talk) 15:26, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's since been modified to tone it down but it's part of their history so deserves a mention. Here is one of the latest incidents [1] that should also be included somewhere as it may lead to disciplinary proceedings. It is important to not let WP sport pages become fan sites. Wayne 09:42, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
To prove we are not racist, we should sign terrorists??? There are racists in all teams. Why you are not enquiring about Bnei Sakhnin fans?? Everyone knows that they are hundred times racist than Beitar fans. "they are the most racist crowd of the major teams".... I think you are frustated because of the defeats inflicted on your team by Beitar. Don't tell which players Beitar should sign... If we are not signing any Arab players it is because they cant play as good as others... not because of racism. Axxn (talk) 12:40, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Schedule

[edit]

Does anyone know where to find a schedule of the games? -ReuvenkT C E 10:19, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Israeli sport websites such as One[2] or Channel5 [3].

Improper Edit

[edit]

There is no official word on Tvrtko Kale's citizenship, Mirosevic's signing with Racing and Muskalo's signing. There is no proof that these things have occurred. until then Please refrain editing this page.

I agree.. all players on "transpers in" are just speculation.. same with "out". KradineerG (talk) 16:53, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Team Images from October 2006.

[edit]

I have some images of the team training with Ardiles in the Daniel Hotel, Herzliya. [4] I don't know who they are, if numbers have change and stuff. But for those that know can cut out the players to put on profiles if they so wish. Just let me know. Thanks. Govvy (talk) 16:42, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Beitar Jerusalem F.C.Beitar Trump Jerusalem F.C. – To reflect official name. Wakari07 (talk) 16:03, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like a WP:TOOSOON case, so it is better to not move for now. Hhkohh (talk) 11:10, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment I have seen conflicting reports about it in the press with some saying that it is going to be renamed, some saying the club has been renamed and some saying the club has proposed a new name. Both the Israeli FA and UEFA are still listing the club as Beitar Jerusalem and usually a name change has to have the consent of both of them so as far as I can see the name change hasn't been confirmed yet. Comment on name change?

[edit]

I haven't seen that Beitar Jerusalem F.C. name change to Beitar Trump Jerusalem F.C. is pretty unclear if it is permanent or a temporary name change, see here, so is the page move appropriate? Seems like it could have waited for me but that is just my opinion. Inter&anthro (talk) 18:28, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The club has indicated that the name change is permanent. See https://www.timesofisrael.com/jerusalem-soccer-team-to-be-renamed-beitar-trump/. Swil999 (talk) 13:55, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The name has not yet changed. this should be removed!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eyalc1989 (talkcontribs) 15:29, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the article title policy. The RM above was in some ways a complete waste of time, because those proposing and supporting the move had either not read or had not understood the policy. I'm sorry if that seems harsh, but this is all too common.

There's an essay I wrote at wp:official names that tries to address this. But the problem is still getting people to read it.

Hopefully, everyone now will make the effort to read the policy. It is pointless proposing or supporting page moves without doing so, and this is said in many, many places. So maybe one more will not help, but it wouldn't hurt. Andrewa (talk) 20:11, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The name should be changed, in my opinion. Nobody calls it by it's full name anyway, so what's one more word? Why is this so controversial? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.110.185.157 (talk) 15:21, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Trump's name doesn't appear in the sentences that are part of the lead. Has something changed - do the people affiliated with Beitar still recognize Trump as part of their name? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.91.212.222 (talk) 16:00, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to have been a publicity stunt, if you search Google for trump site:https://www.beitarfc.co.il, there's no mention of the name anywhere. -- Zanimum (talk) 02:22, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@HonorTheKing: You seem to be the most active editor for Israeli Premier League. Do you know whether Beitar actually played as Beitar Trump? Did they do it for more than one game? (Various local sports teams wear novelty jerseys for single games, I'm wondering if that's a similar case here.) -- Zanimum (talk) 02:30, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
New observation: Their Facebook page only has two search results for Trump's name, both because of comments, not the post themselves. -- Zanimum (talk) 02:35, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Guram Adzhoyev

[edit]

This article describes Adzhoyev as a Muslim Tajik, whereas Adzhoyev's own article describes him as a Soviet Yazidi Kurd. Why is that? Olive11224 (talk) 19:32, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
