Hi! Will review. Sainsf <^>Feel at home 09:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]- Unless we make any significant claim in the lead, we don't include citations for them in the lead. Not a strict rule, but felt I should mention it.
- The two citations in the lead are specific claims about listed status one about the building and he other about the grounds.— Rod talk 16:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Link or explain "neo-classical".
- Linked to Neoclassical architecture.— Rod talk 16:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Would be good to add a word on who Beckford was though you link him.
- Added.— Rod talk 16:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Why is Beckford's Ride in bold?
- Because it redirects to this article.— Rod talk 16:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- in 1844 the tower "in 1844, the tower"
- Done.— Rod talk 16:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- closed in 1992 and in 1993 the site We could say "the next year the site".
- Done.— Rod talk 16:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Simply say Beckford, not William Beckford once you have given his full name.
- Done.— Rod talk 16:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
History
[edit]- It would be good to start them main text by the full name of the tower, not as a continuation of the lead. Also add the location.
- Done.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Link "Bath" in Bath architect, it is linked a bit later in the section.
- It's now linked in the first line of the section so I have removed the 2nd link.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Source for the latter part of the first para?
- Tweaked and ref added.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Are we not discovering Beckford's life a bit too much in the first para? The article seems to be losing its focus. Trim it so that we only have the connection with Bath here, not his life on a whole.
- I think it is important to give enough context to understand why he would want a building like this, but I have removed some of the biography.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Lansdown Crescent is linked thrice in this section, remove the latter two links.
- Done.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Fonthill Abbey and Vathek are each linked twice in this section.
- Done.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Now why is Beckford's Ride in italics?
- Done.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- was sold, for £1000, to a local publican Can do without commas here.
- Done.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- from his own Gothic novel Vathek We already know it is his own work.
- Done.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- The Beckford Tower Trust was established in 1977 and the museum established If you mean they were both established the same year, let us clearly say "The Beckford Tower Trust and the museum were established in 1977".
- Done.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- and managed by its subsidiary, The Beckford Tower Trust. Does ref. 16 support this as well?
- Added another page in the Millington Book as a reference.— Rod talk 17:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Architecture
[edit]- The tower topped by "is topped"
- Done.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Can we link cast-iron?
- Done.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- "Drawing room" seems too common to be linked. Even if it is linked it should be linked at first mention, under History.
- Link removed.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- The Scarlet Drawing Room was converted into a chapel in 1848 A repetition from History, only that the earlier section did not mention the year.
- Combined in history.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Cemetery and grounds
[edit]- Duplinks: Lansdown Crescent, Henry Goodridge
- Removed.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Pinus arborea, Osmunda regalis and Cistus alpina. Would be better to use their common names.
- I've added Royal Fern but can't find a common name for Cistus alpina or Pinus arborea - the source uses Latin names.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Don't say "Henry Goodridge" or "architect Henry Goodridge"
- I think some explanation is needed here for context. If I just use Goodrodge it may not be clear it is the architect who designed the tower.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- When we have introduced Goodridge and there are no others by the same name in the article, it is fine to use just the last name. At least omit "architect", we know he is that. I try to avoid repetition. Sainsf <^>Feel at home 07:39, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- "the architect" removed.— Rod talk 17:06, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Museum
[edit]- Duplink: belvedere
- Removed.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- can follow in Beckford’s footsteps Could no understand this.
- Removed.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Slight paraphrasing
[edit]Earwig's copyvio detector showed some paraphrasing from a few websites. Check the details here.
- I'm not seeing a problem. The Dutch geneology site and artlurker copied from wp article William Thomas Beckford & I have added a note on this article saying "text copied from" providing attribution.— Rod talk
That should be it. These done, I would be happy to promote this. Cheers! Sainsf <^>Feel at home 16:23, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments which have helped to improve the article.— Rod talk 17:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the swift response. I believe we have just one more issue to go. Sainsf <^>Feel at home 07:40, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Very well. This article looks ready for promotion now. I am glad to pass this. Good job! Sainsf <^>Feel at home 17:13, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
