elevations

[edit]

The elevations in the info box are completely screwed up--it looks like someone mixed up meters and feet when reading off USGS topo maps (some of which use different units at different scales). Seeing that the elevation in feet that we give for the mouth of the Bear River is actually the correct elevation in meters--that part is easy to verify from the Great Salt Lake article--I'm going to make the switch here. I'm going to be bold and change the elevation figure for the headwaters too, even though I don't have a reliable source for the actual headwaters' elevation. I can't vouch for the new figure being right, but in any case the correct answer is a lot closer to 13000 ft than to 4000 ft! Perhaps a Utahn can determine where precisely the headwaters of the Bear are, and provide a more accurate elevation figure.65.213.77.129 (talk) 13:23, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While the water that eventually joins up at the headwaters of the Bear likely starts at elevations of 13000ish ft, the actual headwater of the Bear is much lower. The Bear is formed where Stillwater Fork and Hayden Fork join. That elevation, according to the National Map Seamless Server is 8,510 feet (2,590 m). I've changed the info box accordingly.--Trappist the monk (talk) 14:48, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Much more plausible. Thanks! 206.208.105.129 (talk) 18:49, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the longest river in North America that does not ultimately reach the sea

[edit]

A case could be made that this is now the Colorado River, though it sometimes (seldom) does reach the sea, I guess you could word this as "never ultimately reaches the sea".... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aapold (talkcontribs) 01:32, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
