There is clearly something missing here since finitely additive measures need not be -additive. I can't guarantee correctness of the rest of the article (but I might not be the right person to edit it anyway -- I am not a big fan of Bayes.) --Maximilian Janisch (talk) 22:51, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Are you talking about the axioms of probability? They are taken straight from the cited source, i.e. Hartmann, Stephan; Sprenger, Jan (2010), "Bayesian Epistemology", section 2 Probability and Degrees of Belief. Phlsph7 (talk) 04:51, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
suspension of belief
[edit]Bayesian epistemology#Beliefs, probability and bets:
- These degrees come in values between 0 and 1. 0 corresponds to full disbelief, 1 corresponds to full belief and 0.5 corresponds to suspension of belief.
What does "suspension of belief" mean?--Hfst (talk) 21:07, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Hfst: Suspension of belief means that the person has not yet made up their mind: they have have no opinion either way and thus neither accept nor reject the claim in question. You may not be the only one wondering so I've added a corresponding explanatory footnote. Phlsph7 (talk) 08:41, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Phlsph7: Thanks for your answer. I think my problem or should I say the problem of the sentence is, that disbeliefe is the same as beliefe but with the negated claim. Maybe we should say:
- These degrees come in values between 0 and 1. 0 corresponds to full disbelief which is the same es beliefing the negated claim, 1 corresponds to full belief and 0.5 corresponds to no belief (of neither the claim nor its negation?).

- You are right that it should be mentioned that disbelieving means believing the opposite. I made the corresponding adjust along the lines suggested by you. Have a look if this is roughly what you had in mind. Phlsph7 (talk) 09:43, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks.—Hfst (talk) 10:44, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
- Maybe I should have told you that I‘m mainly interested in the german article as you found out.—Hfst (talk) 11:43, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking care of the German version. I also do some work there but my main focus is on the English articles. Phlsph7 (talk) 08:29, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
