Battle of Madhar
[edit]Al Ameer son: I think instead of creating a separate article for Madhar, it would be more appropriate to expand this article to cover both, since background section for both separate articles would be more or less the same, while aftermath of Madhar would be Harura, so there would be a lot of repetition in case of two separate articles. Article title can then be changed to something like "Battles of Madhar & Harura" or "Fall of Mukhtar al-Thaqafi" or something similar. Thanks. --AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 13:51, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- @AhmadLX: Agreed. I thought about creating a separate article previously but, in addition to the reasons you mentioned, secondary sources generally don't provide us sufficient information. Even for Harura alone, I had to rely on Tabari directly for a lot of the information. Thankfully Dixon provides us fair amount of detail as well. As for the name, I prefer the first: "Battles of Madhar and Harura" unless we want to devote equal attention to the siege of Mukhtar's Kufa palace. Feel free to expand/amend as you see fit. Otherwise, I can take a stab at it in the coming weeks myself. --Al Ameer (talk) 14:33, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Alright then, I will add Madhar details in coming few days. Any improvements/help on your part would be welcome. Thanks. AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 15:46, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Al Ameer son: I have added Madhar content and moved the the article to "Battles of Madhar and Harura". Could you please readjust the lead and do some tidying of prose? Thanks. --AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 20:53, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- @AhmadLX: Man, you work fast ;) I’ll do general c/e and work on the lead this week, then we can nominate for GA. I’m going to work on a Second Fitna map that should be finished in a couple of weeks as well. —Al Ameer (talk) 22:21, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Al Ameer son: Thanks, I wrote it in word file and then transferred it here ;) Thanks in advance for the map. AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 15:12, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

- The battles of Madhar and Harura (Yawm Madhār and Yawm Ḥarūrāʾ) Maybe add Arab here as languange?
- the Syria-centered Umayyad Caliphate emanated from the Mecca-based caliph Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr I do not think we should link Mecca because of common term.
- The Basrans' right wing attacked and defeated the Kufans' left wing. Shortly afterwards British afterwards.
- would have been fought in the middle of 686.[18][14] Re-order the refs here.
- According to the Orientalist Henri Lammens, Mus'ab "executed --> "According to the orientalist Henri Lammens, Mus'ab "executed"
- In the note Madhar was situated 48 kilometers (30 mi) north of modern day al-Qurnah --> "Madhar was situated 48 kilometers (30 mi) north of modern-day al-Qurnah"
- @CPA-5: Done. I made the revisions a couple days ago, but forgot to ping you. The only thing is I kept the Mecca link as it's pertinent to the article (being the seat of the caliph Ibn al-Zubayr) and maybe not all readers are familiar with the city). Also, I'll work on an Arabic script for the titles; just indicated for now that the names Yawm Madhar and Yawm Harura are the Arabic transliterations. --Al Ameer (talk) 18:10, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

Sources I'll do this one tomorrow. Cheers. CPA-5 (talk) 17:24, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- Some ISBNs use hyphens others don't maybe standardise them.
- My preference is isbns with hyphens, but I could not not find the hyphenated versions for Dixon (1971) and Wellhausen (1975). Could you help with these two? Al Ameer (talk) 16:05, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
- "The Umayyad Caliphate, 65-86/684-705 (a Political Study)" --> "The Umayyad Caliphate, 65–86/684–705 (a Political Study)"
- Fixed dashes here. Al Ameer (talk) 16:05, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
- Can you standardise the 10/13 ISBN styles?
- Again here my preference is for the 10-digit form, but I could not find it for Donner (2010).
- Lammens and Hawting have the same ISBN?
- Yes, both of these sources are entries in the same Encyclopedia of Islam volume. Al Ameer (talk) 16:05, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
- Streck says it was published in 1990 but Google Books claims 1954?
- This may be a Google Books error. The publisher, Brill, lists its publication in 1991. See here.
- Vaglieri has no ISBN?
- Added isbn now.
That's anything Al Ameer son. Cheers. CPA-5 (talk) 13:18, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Al Ameer son: Can you address my comments before I can promote it? Cheers. CPA-5 (talk) 20:20, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
- @CPA-5: Excuse the delay. I've been busy elsewhere here and IRL, but I also had some trouble with the ISBNs (see responses above). I've now fixed most of the referencing issues. --Al Ameer (talk) 16:05, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
- I found and changed them for you; now we can pass it. Cheers. CPA-5 (talk) 14:11, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
