I see that this article was nominated for deletion recently, but no consensus was reached. I can see why. We really need to clean this up to conform to our standards.
Much of the article seems to be dedicated to a controversy about the 22 March 2013 historical re-enactment of the battle by re-enactors of Ukrainian open-air museum uk:Мамаєва Слобода (Mamayeva Sloboda), led by Konstantin Oliynyk (Костянтин Олійник). Oliynyk called it a Театралізована реконструкція бою козаків верхи на конях проти підрозділу польських крилатих гусар ("theatrical re-enactment of the battle of the Cossacks on horseback against a unit of Polish winged hussars"). Now, the Polish hussars or winged hussars have a bit of a legendary reputation (not least because of the 2016 Sabaton song) as a nearly invincible cavalry unit, the embodiment of the PLC's military power and martial prowess. But there are several sources cited in this article, mostly written in Polish, criticising the 2013 re-enactment by Mamayeva Sloboda for involving winged hussars (as well as troop numbers, but they are regularly controversial). I can't find the "video posted on YouTube on 22 March" (which incidentally is one of the worst source reference I've ever run into on Wikipedia), but I did find some snippets of what appears to the 2013 re-enactment of this battle by Mamayeva Sloboda.

Unfortunately that's all I can find. Mamayeva Sloboda appears not to have its own dedicated YouTube channel with official high-quality recordings of its events. But the fragments do suggest Polish winged hussars fighting against what appear to be the archetypical Ukrainian Cossack on horseback: bare-chested, with almost shaven heads except for a 'tail' (unfortunately I don't know the proper term for it).
Apparently this 2013 event has caused quite a stir in both countries, with most Ukrainians loving it and deciding there should be a monument erected to honour Ivan Bohun's victory, and many Poles detesting it, saying it's a very inaccurate portrayal of how the 1653 event supposedly happened. Now I'm not sure whether this is notable enough to be discussed at such length or not. The uk:Битва під Монастирищем and pl:Bitwa o Monasterzyska versions do not discuss the 2013 re-enactment controversy at all. Perhaps we should bring it down to the basics and leave out the rest? We should certainly observe WP:NPOV here; there cannot be any in-line claims that A, B or C are "lies" or whatever. I'm not even sure if there is such a thing as a "Polish version" or "Ukrainian version" of the battle, as if all sources written in one language agree and contradict all sources in another language. I'll try to do some improvement step by step, and might decide to throw out a lot of opinionated stuff that does not belong in our encyclopaedia. NLeeuw (talk) 18:16, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
