Talk:Basic Black (TV series)
I am an intern at Basic Black and the producers have asked me to enter the right info about Basic Black. This is a program on WGBH. Someone keeps putting the old info back. Please do not do that because that old info is wrong. Thank you :)204.152.13.90 (talk) 20:28, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
It's the intern from Basic Black again. I just wanted to add that as of July 1st the page is fine now so there should not be any further dispute needed Napierk (talk) 23:31, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Emmy Award?
[edit]I can't find a good reference for the emmy award except for a list of winners on glasstower.com. It says it's the official page for the Boston regional Emmy Awards, and http://boston.emmyonline.org/ apparently has no archive of previous winners. If anyone knows where to find better references, please change it accordingly. --Amalthea (talk) 18:16, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Third Opinion
[edit]There is a disagreement between me and User:BasicB about adding the following sentence to the article:
Since 1968, Basic Black (formerly Say Brother) has served as a vehicle for African-American community engagement and for the sharing and celebration of its rich history and culture.[citation needed]
Can someone go through our discussion at User talk:Amalthea#Basic Black and User talk:BasicB#Basic Black and give an outside opinion? Thank you. --Amalthea (talk) 10:34, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- I am the one who added the COI tag because the show and the intern wrote the article to advance their own interests which runs against the interest of Wikipedia, which seeks a neutral and verifiable article. The sentence referred to here is precisely the kind of promotion-speak that slip in when one writes articles for organisations in which you have an interest. I suggest it be re-written something like:
DoubleBlue (Talk) 12:52, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Basic Black is an Emmy Award-winning[1] weekly television series airing on WGBH in Boston. Originally known as Say Brother, the show was created in 1968 and aims to reflect the concerns and culture of African Americans through short-form documentaries, performances, and one-on-one conversations.[2]
There really doesn't need to be a third opinion for this. It looks like people are just fighting about what words to use. The intern seems to know the most about the show so just use the citation given by DoubleBlue and stick with the original wording: "Since 1968, Basic Black (formerly Say Brother) has served as a vehicle for African-American community engagement and for the sharing and celebration of its rich history and culture". You don't need a source for every sentence on Wikipedia people. Tiger65 (talk) 05:47, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- You don't see the POV and promo-speak in that sentence? Further, the cite I gave is from the WGBH themselves so I only used it to say what their self-proclaimed goals are. It cannot be used to say that the show "has served as a vehicle for community engagement". DoubleBlue (Talk) 05:54, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Tiger65. It's not like they're saying Basic Black is the best show on TV. There saying people engage in conversation about African-American topics. I think Double Blue is just being stubborn. That's not self-promotion. Just keep it the way it originally was and add the source. To pick on someone about every single word and where you place it. That's just ridiculous. Some people have too much time on their hands. Wiki is to give accurate info and as long as it's accurate (which it is according to your own source), stop nitpicking on stupid little words. Wingman54 (talk) 06:17, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Double Blue, It looks like you copied that sentence exactly from a website. You shouldn't copy other material without permission. Maybe you should just use the first sentence from BasicB because it rewords what you copied, but maintains the same meaning and explanation. Blake2581 (talk) 19:37, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Wow, I did not expect one sentence to bring about so much conflict. I guess what bothers me is that for months the info on the CBC program page was connected to the WGBH page even though they are not related. No one attempted to fix it so I took the time to set up the right links because I love Wiki and wanted to help improve it. Just because I happen to be an intern does not mean I wrote those two sentences for my own interest. I was simply trying to provide the right info for anyone who comes to Wiki. So I was shocked to read that I was doing this for selfish reasons, though I must thank DoubleBlue for at least attempting to write something because someone else did not even want wiki to display any info about Basic Black being a show about African Americans. Thank you everyone for your opinion. I will use the sentence, but provide more sources. Hope the conflict is all set now. BasicB (talk) 03:37, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah right.
- All three have only edits on their user pages and on this talk page. I am going to disregard your opinions.
BasicB, please read Wikipedia:Sock puppetry.

The link from WGBH should have just been disambiguated rather than replacing the CBC show on this page. That would have created a red link to show that no article currently exists and someone neutral could have created one. If you just want to say they engage in conversation about African-American topics then use a reference and say it. Don't use the promotional gibberish "served as a vehicle for African-American community engagement" as if it's the most critical way for African-Americans to talk. DoubleBlue (Talk) 15:11, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Sock what? The only accounts I have is napierk. I told you that already. SEE DISCUSSION. I haven't even had access to Wiki due to the holiday. Amalthea, you have gone too far. How dare you accuse me of something I have not done. You are not an administrator. I have every right to help Wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Napierk (talk • contribs) 16:39, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
DoubleBlue, I can use your edit That's fine. It says the same thing I'm saying. Amalthea, If you think you are going to stop people from putting that Basic Black is about African-Americans you will be stopped. DoubleBlue is willing to understand it's a show about Blacks. I feel what you're doing Amaltea has racial intent behind it. Thanx DoubleBlue. And Amalthea you attemtp to make me a puppet did not work. I don't know what you're up to but I'm keeping an eye on you for the good of Wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Napierk (talk • contribs) 22:18, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Basic Black → Basic Black (TV series) – Not at all clear that this series is highly meganotable enough to outrank Basic Black (CBC program) as WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for their shared name. What happened here is that the CBC article existed first, created at the disambiguated title from the jump even though no other article existed at the plain title at the time, and then the plain title was created as a copy-pasted duplicate of the disambiguated title — following which the creator of the duplicated version later rewrote the plain title to be about the WGBH show while retaining a hatnote to the existing CBC article. But there isn't a particularly large difference in pageview stats here; although the WGBH show does generally get more views, the difference is almost always measurable in single digits, and there have been some days when the CBC one matched or exceeded it. So it's not at all clear that the WGBH TV series has a strong claim to being more notable than the CBC radio show, and thus the plain title should be a disambiguation page rather than picking and choosing a primary topic. Bearcat (talk) 19:20, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Support moving to disambiguate, noting also the existence of Basic Black: Tales of Appropriate Fear (which may need to be merged somewhere, but is still a thing that exists), and Basic Black 2, a dye. BD2412 T 04:49, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Support, and move Basic Black (CBC program) → Basic Black (radio program), which follows convention and is less ambiguous. 162 etc. (talk) 16:41, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
