Santo Domingo Cathedral (Basco) → Basco Cathedral – article name is inaccurate as the Parish of Basco is dedicated to Saint Dominic de Guzman, but when designated as the seat of Batanes Roman Catholic Prelature, it was dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. Hence the name is erroneous and the cathedral should be called as Immaculate Conception Cathedral, not Santo Domingo Cathedral. The Cathedral today uses the Immaculate Conception as titular of the Cathedral. See their official facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BascoCathedral. I have removed already the disambiguation page between the two. Moved all contents of the article to Basco Cathedral with the edited content including the correct canonical name of the cathedral church of Basco. The page cannot be moved manually because of the redirect. Crear2000 (talk) 13:18, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Crear2000: with regards to copy and paste move you did, that is not allowed. At Wikipedia:Moving a page, it is indicated: "Do not move or rename a page by copying/pasting its content, because doing so fragments the edit history." It is very important to preserve its edit history as a whole. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 10:47, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- @JWilz12345: Hello. I understand that. Then what should be done? The main article title is erroneous and inaccurate. Apparently, it should be Immaculate Conception Cathedral, not Sto Domingo Cathedral, or simply, the general consensus among the article naming of cathedrals in the Philippines which is the "*city/town name* Cathedral". Thanks. The page move request seems to be taking weeks. 10:55, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Crear2000: then this move request is the right way, if page move cannot be made due to technical reason. For the poll, WP:COMMONNAME applies. Support moving to Basco Cathedral. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 12:07, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support per WP:COMMONNAME. Those changing dedications and redesignations of titular patrons of individual churches by the Roman Catholic Church mess things up and destroys already established church names. This church was named simply after its location in the town of Basco, which in Spanish times was known as Santo Domingo de Basco, and which was only renamed or shortened to Basco when Americans came like they did with San Pedro de Macati and many other places. So no, it wasnt inaccurate. The old name of the town just changed.--RioHondo (talk) 11:08, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support per nom.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:26, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support. Usual form for cathedral names unless there is clear evidence that a different name is more common. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:49, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
