Airing of BBC Channels in Western Europe and closedown

[edit]

1. I was able to see BBC1 and 2 outside the UK in 2003. Is it possible to still see those channels along with the other BBC channels outside the UK?

2. I have noticed that it wasn't until recently that BBC started having its main channels go 24 hours a day. Since when did both BBC1 and 2 broadcast 24/7? And when they had to closedown for the night, at what times did they usually sign-off and sign-on back again on the following day?

Well, in the Netherlands (where I live) everyone can see BB1 and BB2. and digital TV users can also see BB3, BB4 and BBC World News. Peter Maas\talk 19:03, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1980s BBC satellite channels

[edit]

Does anybody know what became of the BBC plans to launch two satellite channels in 1986? There's a Times Article on the subject from 1982, but not much else, and I've Googled this to death. I'd be interested to know so I could add the information to the relevant articles. Thanks TheRetroGuy (talk) 20:59, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This would be usefully clarified. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pauldanon (talkcontribs) 09:52, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

60th Anniversary in 1982?

[edit]

The article says that the 60th anniversary was in 1982, but by my math that would be 50th anniversary. There's definitely a picture of a 60th anniversary BBC screen, but by my math, that would be 1992. What doesn't add up? Is it the year the BBC TV began broadcast (1922 vs 1932), the year that screencap is from (1992 vs 1982) or is something else wrong entirely?

BBC in front of european television

[edit]

I'm from County of Skåne (Scania), most southern Sweden, with access to both swedish and danish television channels. (and have also had the plesure of visiting the UK many times) I know for sure both theese countries have had BBC as their main influence from the start in the 1950's until today. The same goes for several other countries. BBC is a kind of "TV-icon" for the world. Other countries try to became like the BBC, in a way no other broadcasting company can compete with. (even if import of programmes may be a bit more common from USA, no European national public service channel have ever wanted to be like ABC, NBC or CBS) I think the international influence BBC have should be strongly mentioned in the article. (and ITV is quite the same for many, but not all, commercial channels "on the continent" as You say. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.249.33.93 (talk) 23:46, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List formatting

[edit]

I've fixed the lists of channels so that they emit valid and accessible HTML using ";" and ":", per WP:LIST. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:46, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First public broadcast TV?

[edit]

Is this considered to be 1932? (Baird system) Or 1935? The different is significant because it relates to the priority with the German system earlier in 1935. See Fernsehsender Paul Nipkow and Television in Germany Andy Dingley (talk) 10:22, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
