Just a note

[edit]

As far as I can tell, the "reparative therapy" is only part of AN's activity. They deal just as much if not more with other sexual "sins" and problems such as masturbation, pornography, prostitution and (unconfirmed) rape crisis support. Also, I do not believe they have any ties with the Christian reparative therapy movement, so labeling them as an "ex-gay organization" might be misleading. Reparative therapy by itself is not religious. (See Talk:Ex-gay) It describes any technique used to help dimish same-gender attractions. Most of the psychologists involved are Christian, and it is heavily used by the ex-gay movement, but it is a separate issue. Technically, ex-gay refers to anyone who had previously identified themselves as gay and is currently identified as straight, but it often used for anyone who is working to overcome same-gender attractions. Ex-gay organizations tend to be very religious, which in the USA tends towards Christianity, but there are ex-gay groups with no religious affliation. [1] Religious ex-gay organizations are not specifically Christian either. For example, Jonah is a Jewish ex-gay organization, and is part of PATH, which is a coalition of 11 of the most prominent ex-gay organizations. I do think we could improve on the way the reparative therapy article is written so it isn't so Christian centric.Joshuajohanson 17:42, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently this is a long-standing problem. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 05:07, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
