A fact from Assassination of Omar Menéndez appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 24 June 2023 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that in February 2023, Ecuadorian entrepreneur Omar Menéndez was elected the mayor of his canton the day after his assassination?
Hello. To anyone who's interested to join in, I wanted to open this discussion in order to get feedback on the draft I wrote by myself last month: it covers the killing of a candidate for mayor in Ecuador, as well as his posthumous election.
I was shocked when I first read the news, and I think those uncanny circumstances make the draft notable enough to become a full article, especially since it's related to the recent rise in violence, even towards politicians, all across the country.
I forgot to mention: this was actually the first time I've ever wrote a full article about politics and crime, so I hope I've done at least an acceptable job. Oltrepier (talk) 16:46, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I created a draft for this blood-chilling bit of news in the first place, but it was BuySomeApples who eventually promoted it to article status, so it's only right that I credit them. I hope the sources I've provided, as well as my QPQ review, are all fine.
