Released in Canada?

I am just wondering if this has been released in Canada, I've heard many say so, just check your "local" EB Games store, I'm not sure if this is true if anybody could confirm this then great! --Kanonkas, Take Contact (talk) 19:00, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Then I mean the PC version --Kanonkas, Take Contact (talk) 09:12, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Omission of narcotics

Is it worth noting that the game omits the usage of narcotics celebrating a successful kill that the Assassins (AKA Hashashians) partook in? Its sort of an interesting foot note considering it is one of the things the assassins are famous for.Talorat (talk) 05:10, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

One of the game's advertising points was its historical accuracy, and there isn't any real proof of hashish use (Hashshashin#Etymology of the word "assassin"). Besides, there's lots of reasons to leave weed out of a game. The tone of the game would probably be ruined if Altair were a stoned killer.—Loveはドコ? (talkcontribs) 05:16, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Stealth Game?

I would really not consider this game a stealth game. Sometimes you have to blend into a crowd or hide, but this is only part of the game. You are not constantly hiding and sneaking from place to place. Half the time you are out in the open. This game is not generally a stealth game. It would be like saying TES 4 Oblivion is a Stealth Game if you play as a Stealth Class. Ringwall (talk) 18:14, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

The developers classify it as a stealth game(as said in Kojima Report podcast if I recall correctly). And saying something is "only part of the game" slightly contradicts your own argument. I wouldn't say it is as much a stealth game as the MGS, but it could be called one. john.n-irl (talk) 21:25, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
I believe the phrase they are trying to use for games like this is "social stealth", meaning that you are using stealth by blending in with those around you, rather than hiding in the shadows.pcfreakshow (talk) 12:57, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Mreh. I guess you're right, and my argument has been defeated.Ringwall (talk) 16:05, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Inaccuracies

No offense, but did the person who wrote the "Historic relevance" section even play the game? First of all, Altair does not convince Richard the Lionhearted to end his crusade; they simply have a brief chat and part ways, with Richard continuing his crusade. Secondly, the Assassin fortress was clearly identified during many different conversations as Masyaf, not Alamut. Seriously, check the game. Or the web for that matter. 69.19.14.17 (talk) 14:07, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Shanking

A much used game mechanic is the fact that no suspicion will be aroused by a stabbed person until he totally hits the ground (much like boxing sorta). The intended effect was the cliche of a victim being stabbed in the middle of a crowd without suspicion right? (Charlie Murphy comes to mind here) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.231.228.0 (talk) 10:20, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Lucy the assassin?

I'm not trying to turn this into something I could simply ask elsewhere, but this part troubles me. Yes it is true that, as long as you obtain A pen, you can see an email addressed to her that certainly seems to be from the assassin's side. But what is this about Lucy waving her 'little finger' which indicated she was an assassin? Firstly, how are even able to notice that, and secondly (and most importantly:) where did it ever say that waving your fingers makes you an assassin?

Her ring finger was missing, and the Assassins removed the ring finger in order to to have their hidden blade, thus she is an assassin

...Really? I didn't know. Sorry, I looked around a bit and other people said that too, but where was it explained in the game? Or is it just common knowledge? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.21.154.108 (talk) 18:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Common knowledge to history buffs, yes.

"he is saved by Lucy Stillman, who reveals herself to be an Assassin by bending down her ring finger, to imply her membership." She didn't bend down her ring-finger, she was showing that she didn't have the finger. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.123.137.28 (talk) 04:56, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

She had the finger. She just bent it down. Don't you think Abstergo would have noticed if her finger was removed like an assassin? xenocidic (talk) 21:43, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Specifically, you can see her typing with it in an earlier scene. xenocidic (talk) 20:40, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Does any1 know if Desmond had a ring finger? Just wondering. Smashkid101 (talk) 21:02, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Desmond did not become an assassin so yes he still has his finger and looking at the seen, Lucy is missing her finger. Saying you can see it when she's typing or Abstergo would have noticed it means little because this game is flawed in a numer of ways. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.81.226.247 (talk) 03:25, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually the game makes constant references to Desmond being an ex-assassin. Also, although I do not actually know this, I would assume that bending the ring finger is now of symbolic importance. Assassins these days have would little use of a hidden blade, and would likely use a spring/release mechanism under the arm in any case. However, in my version of the game (which I only just completed) I'm quite sure she has no ring finger. I may recomplete the game later to test this theory. Could it be that different cultural versions of the game have different finger-status, in the way that europian and american game cheats often vary? Gazok (talk)

Desmond was raised by assassin's, but left the commune when he was 16 or something of the sort. xenocidic (talk) 21:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
I guess try and take a good picture of her missing finger while she's typing. I no longer have the game so I can validate/invalidate your claim. But I doubt there's a difference between versions. xenocidic (talk) 21:39, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
For whats it's worth, the assassin's creed Wikia also says she's just bending it down. http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Lucy_Stillman xenocidic (talk) 21:44, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, not worth much, I'm afraid. If you've ever had a real look around a game wikia before, you'd know they're full of rubbish. But I guess if that many people are sure, I may be wrong. As I said, I'll check. Gazok (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 22:24, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I have now checked, and I was indeed mistaken. All fingers accounted for. Gazok (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 22:24, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Archive Bot

I recommend that we put an auto archiving bot on this page for threads older than 14 days. Anyone object to the idea or the age of the threads? And does anyone have a recommendation for the archive pages' size? MrKIA11 (talk) 02:39, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I have set up a bot to archive threads older than 30 days, and for the size of the archive pages to be 50kb. MrKIA11 (talk) 00:43, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

You should up the size of the archive page to something more like 75 to 100kb just because there tends to be a lot of talk here and 50kb isn't really that much for an archive page. Drizzt3737 (talk)

I based the original size on WP:SIZE, which says 30-50 is about the max, so I went with the max of that (50kb). I don't see any reason to make it bigger. It is also nice to not have to wait forever for the page to load when the size does not have to be bigger. I think that as the game gets older, there will be progressively less talk, and so it is not like there is going to be a whole lot of archive pages. The archive index also helps if you are worried about having to go through multiple archive pages to find something. MrKIA11 (talk) 22:34, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia Reference.

Possibly not Wikipedia compatible, but there is a possible reference to Wikipedia and the negative attention it gets in Assassins Creed.? Vidic, in Memory Block 6 says: "Doesn't what Mr. Miles? Match up to what you read on an online encyclopedia?" Wikipedia is strongly dissed for it's possible inaccuracy. Definitely worth asking the developers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.142.130.11 (talk) 02:34, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

It sounds very speculative to me, and I very much doubt the developers would wish to say whether or not they were referring to Wikipedia. It should be pointed out that there are other online encyclopaedias as well. ~~ [Jam][talk] 15:36, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

PC Release References

Just checked the given references for the PC release date and both were dud. Neither confirmed the April release and were just speculatory to the fact it will be released in 2008 (something we now no for sure)

I'm not completley sure if it is true or false. But either way the reference should at least be checked! I'm going to put a citation marker. Remove if you find good sources.

THanks

OK so why does the intro say it's released in europe on the 28th when Game.co.uk says it won't be released for another 13 days?Pongley (talk) 21:06, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
The game was clearly not released on March 28 in Europe. According to my local game store the game had been delayed until April 11 (Got to know that when I went to buy it on March 28, due to the false date of March 28 given here on wiki). Why revert it to March 28 when it's certainly not released? Sure the game might be delayed even further, but March 28 is certainly not true (217.208.46.230 (talk) 17:19, 31 March 2008 (UTC))

Hey guys I thought you said that Wikipedia wasn't supposed to host pages that link to copyright infringing material? But here is a page hosted on Wikipedia that links to copyright infringing material! http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Assassin%27s_Creed&diff=195312725&oldid=195240842 So I'm confused.. is it okay? Or is it not okay? Please clarify! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.53.37.218 (talk) 10:19, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Firstly, please post new comments to the bottom of the talk page. Secondly, someone posted that link, which was then removed. Links to copyright infringing websites (such as that one) are not permitted, and that was why it was removed. ~~ [Jam][talk] 12:21, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about that. What I meant was, the link is still here on Wikipedia, at the wikipedia URL that I posted above. Why is it still hosted on Wikipedia there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.53.37.218 (talk) 16:21, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Surely the link is hidden away in the history, and only someone looking back at the history would find it. I'm not an admin, but I assume to clear the actual link out of the history would require a delete of this page, something they are going to be unwilling to do. ~~ [Jam][talk] 16:47, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh. So it's okay as long as the page isn't popular you mean? Can somebody please clarify exactly how "popular" a page on Wikipedia has to be before illegal links get deleted from it? I can't find any solid numbers for this anywhere :( —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.53.37.218 (talk) 17:57, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Not to sound rude or anything, but you seem very preoccupied with these links - any particular reason why? Like I said, I doubt they will ever get deleted because I believe that would require the deletion of this entire page, something that is not going to happen. ~~ [Jam][talk] 21:05, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm just confused by the conflicting messages. On one hand, there are people in this talk page saying those links can't be on Wikipedia, but on the other hand, they are still on Wikipedia for all to see. This was also true for the leaked account information list from Stage6. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.53.37.218 (talk) 03:11, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
OK. The fact is that you can't (well, shouldn't) add those links to Wikipedia. However, the way Wikipedia works is that any edit is logged in the history. When a user then removes the inappropriate links, they go into the history but are not longer visible on the main page. The only way they would return would be either someone re-inserting them or restoring the history for the page with the links on it (either way, I suspect they'd get reverted very quickly). Like I said, there isn't a lot we can do about it, they will just sit there and only someone bothered to trawl through the history and know what they are looking for would find it. ~~ [Jam][talk] 08:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Confusion over missing finger

The article currently mentions continuity errors with regards Altaiir's missing fingers. There aren't any continuity errors. Altaiir is missing his left ring finger, and the hidden blade deploys from below the knuckle. This can be seen on the cover art and on several in-game screenshots: http://news.filefront.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/acps3.jpg http://www.gamershell.com/static/screenshots/9853/257653_full.jpg http://www.bdgamers.net/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/assassins-creed-ps3-1.jpg 212.44.19.62 (talk) 13:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

oh... so the blade retracts and emerges by... magic? i think that his ring finger controls the device that conceals his weapon. 98.193.121.227 (talk) 02:37, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Probably not. From what I've read around (just did a quick Google now), he always closes his palm when using the hidden blade. Presumably his other fingers push down on the hidden blade device and cause it to stick out. Oh, and it's probably best to remember this is a game, not real life, so magic could be involved :). ~~ [Jam][talk] 08:14, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Altair

How come no one has made the parralel with altair's name to the heavens.

Altair is the Alpha star of the Aquila (constellation), lieing roughly at the celestial equator. The constellation resembles a wide winged, soaring, short necked, bird, which the ancients identified as an eagle.

In classical Greek mythology, it was identified as the eagle which carried the thunderbolts of Zeus(aka, delivering the deathblow for Al Mualim).

In Chinese mythology, there is a love story of Qi Xi in which Niu Lang (Altair) and his two children (Aquila) are separated forever from their mother Zhi Nü (Vega) who is on the far side of the river, the Milky Way. The Japanese Tanabata festival is also based on this legend. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.143.241.211 (talk) 22:29, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Desmond???

"The player's health is described as the level of synchronization between Desmond and Altaïr's memories; should Altaïr take damage, some amount of synchronization is lost, and if all synchronization is lost, the current memory that Desmond is experiencing will be restarted at the last checkpoint."

That is the first time "Desmond" is mentioned. What the hell is a Desmond? Is this article meant to be read in the traditional linear method of beginning to end? The next paragraph DOES go on to explain who Desmond is but it is real crappy to reference something not yet explained. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.6.18 (talk) 03:23, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Desmond is the man you control during the present time. Altair is his distant ancestor who's memories he is watching/controlling. The whole synchronization thing is how close Desmond is keeping his actions to the original actions of Altair. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Superdude0721 (talkcontribs) 14:28, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I think he's saying that it's just confusing that the article references Desmond before it's described who Desmond is. Internet forum threads as sources

I know well that Internet forum threads are not normally considered reliable sources, but I think if someone were to post a link to an internet forum thread on the talk page with people discussing an aspect of the game (eg. Lucy flashing her fourth finger), it would in my opinion be sufficient proof that it actually occurs in the game.--Yolgnu (talk) 03:43, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Where the quote came from, I'm not sure, but I know what it means, but something tells me you got it wrong, first off: I think it was nothing is true and everything is pemitted. Since this is based on real-life events and noone totally knows what gods and forces rule us (not trying to be sacreligious). The phrase is supposed to be like: you can believe what you want, why do you think we have religions in the first place. --Wikistonecolddragon (talk) 22:44, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

it was supposedly the last words of Hassan-i Sabbah, the founder of the real world Assassins. I'm not sure if Al Mualim is meant to be some later leader or Hassan-I Sabbah himself. --86.135.180.6 (talk) 01:16, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
·you can believe what you want, why do you think we have religions in the first place." is definitely wrong. Al Mualim is meant to represent Hassan, and Hassan thought that beliefs were a way of enslaving the masses, and that the world is changed through actions. That's what it means. I have written a brief but concise description of Hassan's early life and beliefs here: http://clashero.deviantart.com/art/Alamut-revised-94362690 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.18.39.51 (talk) 20:37, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Belief nothing, for it can be nothing but an illusion. Therefore be wise. Yes, everything is permitted, but you should act wisely. That's what al Mualim said.

Another thing, in the e-mails of Warren Vidic, there are newspaper headlines. One mentioned that Mexico was tightening its border control and there were many American refugees. Also, the African continent is supposedly severely depopulated by some unknown cause. Abestergo was also in a scandal involvig fluoride being put in the water supply of some American town. This was also mentioned in the e-mails from the computer in the conference room, by another Abstergo employee. That person, I believe it was Alan something, signed his e-mails with the sentence "May the Father of Understanding guide you to succes". A sentence also used by templars in letters in 1191. Lucy told Desmond that Abstergo was templar. Further she has some e-mails with an unknown contact which imply that she has infiltrated Abstergo and even the templars don't know the true Lucy. At one moment she calls for rescue, perhaps the shooting heard outside (likely, because Vidic, by e-mail or not, gave away that most of the assassins were dead). Aslo, when you talk to Lucy after you killed Robert de Sable, and thus have found out about the woman disguised as Robert, Desmond looked at Lucy and said something like "....you're.." and then nothing. She is missing one finger, just like Altair (look at game cover at the spot of his hidden blade). Pretty amazing stuff they put in this game to find out. Can't wait for the sequel, if it's to come... I'll have a crack at it, when i get some time, I thought I would mention the "Nizari" as they are the sect the Assassins belonged to and still exist.(Water Stirs (talk) 06:41, 9 November 2008 (UTC))

Hm, I haven't heard of those, but if what you're saying is true, you should definitely mention it in the plot summary! --89.142.105.123 (talk) 23:54, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

It is, frank Herberts "dune" was also based on the Nizari of this period though he decided to set it in space.(Water Stirs (talk) 10:21, 5 December 2008 (UTC))

I made the additions to the Plot, and added a link to the Assassins article, and the Nizari for those interested in finding out about the assassins, decedents, also of interest may be the controversy over the comic books, which the Nizari community lobbied against in Canada where the games company is based.(Water Stirs (talk) 10:35, 5 December 2008 (UTC))

The Nizari as best I can recall are not mentioned by name by the game - including it here would be speculation. Also, we don't provide links to such material through the {{main}} template, but the use of inline links, which was already done for the Hashshashin. --MASEM 14:21, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

The Nizari are Hashashin, which is documented in every literary work dealing with the Assassins; hardly speculation. I am willing to provide citations. I think it may be of interest to readers wanting to learn more about the plot; and interested in the history of the back story. Agreed, placing it in the main was an error, but not so for the plot surely. At least in the links. (Water Stirs (talk) 15:27, 7 December 2008 (UTC))

We can make the Hashashin connection because that is mentioned in game, but even if historically the Hashashin and Nizari are connected, if that connection is not made in the game, it is not appropriate here. Mind you, if there is that connection, then the Hashashin page should mention the Nizari appropriately. --MASEM 15:30, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Its not a question of "if" there is a connection, it's not a question of connections. Hashashin are Nizari one and the same the Hashashin movement started because of their support for Nizar, hence the designation "Nizari". Also there is the controversy in Canada over the comic book case when Nizari challenged the games company over the depiction in the proposed comics and future releases of the game so perhaps that ought to be a new section at the bottom titled "controversy", where that would be more appropriately placed? Historical Accuracy

I know there is a historical accuracy part of the article, but shoudn't we have a seperate page for like comparisons for what the game presented and what archaeological studies shown. --76.177.95.107 (talk) 22:48, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I highly, highly doubt that there would be enough info on the differences between the events of Assassin's Creed and the events of actual history to merit an entirely separate article. -Lamarcus (talk) 00:52, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Unnecessary, since the Wikilinks link to the articles of the actual events. The game has no pretense of being anything but fiction, bending real-world events to fit the lore. JAF1970 (talk) 01:40, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

prequel/sequal info

The prequal to assassins creed has been released for nintendo ds, but is it likley to be released for other game systems?? Also are there plans for an assassins creed 2 or some sort of other sequal as the ending to the story line would suggest?? The ending is an obvious cliffhanger, with Desmond's life hangimg by a thread, and Lucy's hints towards being an assassin herself beging for more exploration and explanation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.100.63.251 (talk) 07:13, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Unless sources can be found to back up your questions, we don't have the answers. Besides that, this is not a forum, so unless you plan to make further comments regarding the improvement of this article, this section will probably be removed. ~~ [Jam][talk] 07:26, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
On imdb there is a page for Assassin's Creed 2 ; http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt1201133/ --03crichardson (talk) 16:09, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

The prequel has also been released on SYMBIAN mobile. It's almost identical to the DS version. In fact, I can say it IS the DS version, but without touchscreen. Do not confuse this with the same 2D title by Gameloft. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sidneykwchan TX2 (talkcontribs) 03:47, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

La-Ahad vs. Al-Ahad

This article lists the main character's name as Altair ibn la-Ahad. That doesn't sound arabic, shouldn't it be Altair ibn al-Ahad? Walnutjk (talk) 18:33, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

The manual lists it as "La Ahad." 72.50.168.194 (talk) 07:39, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

LA Ahad in Arabic means noone OK?:)Amir (talk) 22:40, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello?? Good sales vs bad sales contradiction?

One part of the article makes it sound like sales of AC were terrible due to those mean pirates, but in the section right below it talks about how it's one of the top selling games for PS3 and Xbox. Maybe there's something I'm not realizing here, but this seems rather contradictory....someone knowledgeble want to fix? MisplacedFate1313 (talk) 21:16, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

It's about poor PC sales, in contrast to the Console versions —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.94.111.143 (talk) 13:23, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
