[edit]The people of Aschaffenburg can be Fanconian and still ruled by the Elector of Mainz. The political identity of Franconia (and its Dukes) fell out of usage many times during history, as the territory was divided up and given away.
Town Twinning
[edit]I was the first to put a flag aside the names of Aschaffenburg's twin towns. I added the British flag for Perth, UK. User Mais Oui! is on an anti-flag war crusade, reverting and averting all Scottish towns to Scotland flags. Here, to Perth had only been assigned the British flag, yet he changed it in favour of the Scottish. Mais Oui!, please stop your flag-warring. The British got here first. - Hi Enzedbrit, I am in Canada, and agree with you, to a degree. Scotland is in the UK of course, but is more than a Canadian province or US state. Having said that, are we going to change all the flags for English locations to England only flags? It would be silly, and we can take this further (Bavaria, etc). So, you are correct in saying that it should be a UK flag at this point.--RobNS 18:14, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your input RobNS. The United Kingdom is the nation state and Scotland is a constituent part of this state, but a non-independent part of it none the less. I'm glad that you agree with me that the nation state is paramount in this instance. Enzedbrit 20:13, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
"locally [ˈaʒəbɛːʃ]"
[edit]How do you spell this local name and which dialect is it? It clearly isn't spelled "Aschaffenburg". - filelakeshoe (t / c) 11:56, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
The local dialect is South Hessian (Südhessisch), a sub group of Hessian (Hessisch), which belongs to the Rhine Franconian dialect group (Rheinfränkisch). The town's name can be spelled "Ascheberch" or "Aschebersch". Hessian dialect is not a written language and the name can't be written exactly because it sounds somewere between standard german "ch" and "sch". Thats dialect :-) ManfredV (talk) 13:10, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
