Name
[edit]Article needs a new name. Just putting it out there. I don't think the current title is the WP:COMMONNAME. Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:52, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, you're right. The current title is a translation of the Armenian one. The problem is that this is not really talked about as a separate event from Davit Bek's rebellion in the English-language sources (as far as I can tell), so it's hard to find an appropriate name. Artsakh Liberation Struggle (1724–1731) → Artsakh rebellion of 1724–1731 – The parenthesized date range seems unnecessary, since Artsakh Liberation Struggle is a red link. However, it has been suggested on the article talk page that the current title isn't really a WP:COMMONNAME in English for this event, and it seems potentially POV. — BarrelProof (talk) 17:35, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose the official name in Armenian historiography is 'liberation struggle'. Other neutral sources use this name too, such as Aldo Ferrari who studies Russian history. Using "rebellion" is the opposite of a neutral POV title, it is an explicitly biased title. Ultimately the common name is prioritized, and the majority of works on this subject refer to liberation struggle or movement. This is why the "positive" named Greek War of Independence isn't titled "Greek Revolt" instead, for example. Another problem with calling the article "rebellion" is that it completely ignores the intellectual and political aspects of the wider movement and instead can only refer to the military aspect. - I'll admit that I am not familiar with the topic. I was just going by what the article says. The lead section of the article describes it as a rebellion, repeatedly. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:06, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- yeah, i'll say the same - i trust KhndzorUtogh's knowledge of this topic far more than my own, in which case the article should be edited to be, well, better and more accurate to the historiography. ... sawyer * he/they * talk 19:27, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Are these English language sources? Kowal2701 (talk) 19:29, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
