IS small Brother
[edit]I was just chatting with ALICE, and somehow she got the impression my name was IS small Brother (we were discussing 1984). Anyway, I log out, log back in, and ask her who IS small Brother is. She responded "Charlie Parker." Ŏ_O --Ye Olde Luke (talk) 07:29, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Turing test?
[edit]Is it really accurate to say ALICE can't pass a Turing test? It's fooled some people, and others not -- Turing never specified that it be 100% successful, nor that the human interrogator needed to know a lot about computers. I think ALICE *does* pass the Turing test (at least according to the initial definitions) and this shows the flaws in the idea as a test of real intelligence. If you look at something like the Loebner Prize, almost all the judges are going to be of well above-average intelligence (there's a strong self-selection effect, because high intelligence is highly correlated with being interested in AI in the first place.) To pass a Turing test, does it have to fool a highly intelligent 'computer nerd', or will fooling an average person suffice? Can we have a source saying it can't pass one? Vultur (talk) 23:10, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- It really can't. I was a judge in 2000 - and my essay on it is linked in the article, ALICE Springs - of course their are limits to the test, and the set up is artificial, but no one could mistake that for human. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fiskeharrison (talk • contribs) 00:04, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
- OK, then, sure. Thanks. Vultur (talk) 11:58, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Attempt at an ethical hacking
[edit]Me and one of my first cousins tried to see what would happen if we impersonated Dr. Richard S. Wallace in 2013, and she responded, "Hello Dr. Wallace. May I have the password?". I responded, "I seem to have forgotten the password, could you please remind me?". A.L.I.C.E. then became confused and I had no idea how to get inside of it's brain. She finally told me that her botmaster was watching, so I let my cousin take over.
I used to have to teach him how to use a computer, despite only knowing how to use functions of any program, while I still had no idea of how to program nor how the PC Assembly worked. But, then he went to Bowling Green Technical College, and he surprised me when he talked to her in 2-bit binary, and they had at it for a long time!
Our sole purpose of doing this was to expose to Dr. Wallace a flaw in his bot's security, so that he could fix it.
My name is Joseph D. Smith, and I'm an autistic author(author who is high-functioning-autistic), and my cousin goes by T. Smith, out of anonymity.

Page views
[edit]Kind of interesting - there was a steady decline in page views from March through July 2019 (last month data is available), and the views in May, June and July were the lowest ever for each successive month since data began in July 2015. Will be interesting to see viewership for the remainder of 2019. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 01:43, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
