Query about information on page

[edit]

In the 'Early Life & Service' section on the main page, it states that Barrett was commissioned 'sub lieutenant' in the 44th Regiment of Foot. Can anyone confirm if this is acurate? I believe that 'Sub Lieutenant' is a naval rank, not an army rank. It seems to me more likely that he was commssioned as a 'second lieutenant'. Can anyone confirm this?

Put this in the category of 'asked and answered' - the answer to this question is that 'sub lieutenant' in Sir Arthur Barrett's case is correct. The Gazette link confirms this, and the Wikipedia link to Sub Lieutenant explains that the British Army used the rank briefly before changing to Second Lieutenant. My humblest apologies. I guess, I've learned something new for today! AustralianRupert (talk) 03:03, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
