One of you just provide a source.Azerbaijani 21:48, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Extensive evidence was presented on the Tigranes the Great page, as well as also relevant at Orontid Dynasty page. The Artaxiad Dynasty, which gave Tigranes the Great, was of Parthian origin according to classical sources (e.g., Movses of Khorene, Sebeos, Hovaness Draskhanakertci, Procopius of Caesarea, Joseph Flavius) and of Persian origin according to modern research[2], [3]. --adil 07:50, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

? Is that all you can counter the facts with? The Artaxiad dynasty was of Iranian origin, and we have none other than user Artaxiad acknowledge that in the other talk page. --adil 17:55, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope.-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 18:10, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeap. See above -- you can't argue with those sources, they are academic, authoritative, verifiable. You are meanwhile supressing information and removing sourced info. --adil 07:59, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

cc of anon edit from another article

[edit]

Hi, over at Arsacid empire, an anon added the following text. It seems misplaced there, so I've moved it here.

The Parthian EmpireArtaxiads and Roman Republic first came in to contact when Lucullus defeated Tigranes the Great in the Battle of Tigranocerta (69 BC), in which Tigranes had to forfeit most of his kingdom. Tigranes who was the king of Armenia, ruled the area between the Caspian Sea, the Black Sea and the Mediterranian Sea, which lay between the Easterly-growing Roman Republic and the Parthian Empire. After his complete defeat in 66 BC at the hands of Pompey, Rome returned him as king of Armenia in exchange for Syria and other southern conquests that Tigranea had made.[1]

The one strikeout/replacement is mine. -- Fullstop (talk) 10:03, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Info box; Armenian and Iranian

[edit]

According the Encyclopedia Iranica, the Artaxiad dynasty was Iranian in origin. No surprise given the origins of the Orontid and Arsacid dynasties of "Armenia". While theres no question about it that they identified as (proto)-Armenians and gave shape to the eventual Armenian ethnicity, the dynasties were ethnically Iranian, or at least Iranian in origin, and the info box should reflect this as well.
