Climate data

[edit]

When i found this semi-protected article on 25 May 2015, it had two climate data tables, one from NOAA (for which someone had vandalised the url) and one from Climate-Data.org (where the data had apparently been vandalised). The data in the table allegedly from Climate-Data.org did not in fact match the data as given at their web site. For example the maximum temperatures for June, July and August were listed as:

49.3°C (120.7°F),  47.8°C (118°F),  and  34.1°C (93.4°F)  data in article;
35.5°C (95.9°F),  36.9°C (98.4°F),  and  35.8°C (96.4°F)  data at the Climate-Data.org webpage.

The data in the NOAA table come from weather station #41506, named "Chitral", which is at the Chitral Airport (ref) outside the town of Chitral, and is from a higher elevation than Arundu, and thus the lower recorded temperatures. The best course at this point seems to me to be to use the actual data from the Climate-Data.org in constructing a new table. Any comments? --Bejnar (talk) 19:04, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

One of them was created by a suspected sockpuppet, who was messing around on Arundu and Arandu. The one they created is likely incorrect- unfortunately I'm not sure which one was theirs. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:07, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the one created at Arandu (and copied here when I merged the articles):

  • @Joseph2302: so should we keep the NOAA table which is from a different location, or should we replace it with a table using the actual Climate-Data.org data? Or should we go without a climate table? --Bejnar (talk) 19:41, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not experienced in articles about places, I guess if the other table is also wrong, that should also be removed. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:52, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have replaced the incorrect one with a table containing the actual data from "Climate:Arundu". Climate-Data.org / AmbiWeb GmbH.. --Bejnar (talk) 06:15, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates

[edit]

It seems that the coordinates were vandalised as well. GNIS gives: 35° 18' 38" N, 071° 32' 59" E which is a lot closer to the actual 35° 18' 37" N, 071° 32' 55" E from Google Earth. I will correct. --Bejnar (talk) 19:41, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

Per Google Books search, "Arandu" AND "Chitral" gets about 1,170 results, but "Arundu" AND "Chitral" gets only about 37 results. So the COMMONNAME is Arandu and it is also a more accurate transliteration. The article must be moved to the correct and COMMONNAME. Khestwol (talk) 06:50, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have now fixed the title. The new title is "Arandu, Chitral". Khestwol (talk) 07:23, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Khestwol: Is there another Arandu in Pakistan? Normally disambiguation takes places at the highest unambiguous geographic level. --Bejnar (talk) 15:29, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Bejnar, there is just one Arandu in Pakistan. Google Maps search gets no other Arandu in Pakistan. So "Arandu, Pakistan" might be a better title. Khestwol (talk) 16:08, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
