How do you cross-breed something and end up with 2/3 and 1/3 parentage?
I don't know? How do you cross-breed something and end up with 2/3 and 1/3 parentage?

For the industrial-metal band, see Crossbreed (band).
The term crossbreed or crossbred refers to a hybrid animal of two purebred parents. Crossbreed may also refer to a domestic animal where the breed status of only one parent or grandparent is known. Crossbreeding, also known as mixing, refers to the process of breeding such an animal, often with the intention of creating offspring that share the traits of both parent lineages. The term is sometimes used for plants but is more commonly applied to domesticated animals.
[edit] Crossbreeds in specific animals A dog of unknown parentage is often called a mongrel, while a cat of unknown parentage is often referred to as a moggy (also moggie).

- I was also rather surprised when I saw the proportions cited: an exact 2/3:1/3 ratio is surely impossible (unless there's something very complex indeed going on). Is there any way we can identify the source of these figures? RomanSpa 01:24, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's actually rather simple - check out polyploidy. Many Rosaceae fruit trees are triploid which could explain the ratio. (Triploid cultivars are easily recognized - they are those which cannot pollinate themselves or others and if planted alone they will not or hardly bear fruit no matter how mcuh they bloom.) Unclear fraction usage in article
[edit]It is very unclear, and confusing, as to what the 1/4 to 3/4 fractions refer in discussing this article. Is this a reference to the size of the aprium, or to its genetic makeup? Lyndonu (talk) 00:17, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- I hope I've simplified the sentence enough to make the meaning more obvious. Ciotog (talk) 22:08, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
