tiny enclaves
[edit]Are Wonnenstein and Grimmenstein too small to show up on this map, or have they been absorbed into Ausser.? —Tamfang (talk) 02:13, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
What does the word Rhoden mean? Intelligent Mr Toad 2 (talk) 01:24, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
- Apparently "clearing" – see Appenzell#Division of Appenzell; it could be an ancient version of the modern German word "Rodung" (which has the same meaning). Number 57 01:29, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
Citations really needed for questionable info
[edit]There is some info in this article that looks very questionable. The sentence in question is this:
The entire Ausserrhoden (except Herisau, where Joseph Forrester convinced them to remain Catholic) converted to the Reformation in 1529. The Innerrhoden (except for Gais) remained with the old faith.
The problem is this: Herisau's population was over 97% Protestant in 1850. While I know things can change in 300 years, it is hard for me to see Herisau switching denominations. There is no evidence that it ever was Roman Catholic after the Reformation. Also, Gais definitely is protestant, but that is obvious: it is a member of the Protestant Ausserrhoden, not Innerrhoden. Again, I don't see how Gais switched from Inner to Outer Appenzell. Sources are definitely needed here to confirm that this sentence either is true or false. --1990'sguy (talk) 17:26, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Exclaved convents
[edit]I feel like the article should mention somewhere that part of the canton's territory are two small convents that are exclaves in Ausserrhoden (Wonnenstein and Grimmenstein). 2WR1 (talk) 07:09, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Appenzell
[edit]moved from my talk page -- ZH8000 (talk) 13:51, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Regarding this undo, the infobox in the article about Appenzell says Appenzell is a "Municipality in Switzerland". Minilammas (talk) 10:03, 11 February 2023 (UTC) ZH8000 (talk) 13:51, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, yes, I corrected it as well. The canton of AI does not know of 'municipalities' at all, but districts only. Besides: WP is not a valid source ;-) -- ZH8000 (talk) 13:54, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- @ZH8000: I believe you, but the infobox of the article about the Appenzell village still says "Municipality in Switzerland". I thought you said you corrected it. Minilammas (talk) 14:19, 12 February 2023 (UTC) edit: I tried to change it to "Village in Switzerland", but it seems that the template used produces the text, so it can't be altered. Minilammas (talk) 14:37, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Minilammas: Thanks for the hint, I didn't realize it. Unfortunately the info box does not allow to represent this Swiss exception. -- ZH8000 (talk) 14:43, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

- That's unfortunate. But thank you for correcting me initially. I thought it was a municipality because the infobox of the village said so. I'm no expert on Switzerland. Minilammas (talk) 14:48, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
