Ant mimicking jumping spiders

[edit]

These are genera of jumping spiders that are ant mimics. Might be useful for fleshing out the spider section: Myrmarachne, Sarinda, Peckhamia, Toxeus, Martella, Leptorchestes, Synemosyna, Synageles, Diolenius, Fluda, Erica, Panachraesta, Eburneana, Myrmage, Myrmagua, Myrmanu, Myrmapana, Myrmapeni, Myrmaplata, Myrmatheca, Myrmele, Zuniga, Parafluda, Corcovetella, Simprulla, Uluella. Weak ant mimics: Cosmophasis, Paradamoetas, Tutelina. Nosferattus (talk) 18:33, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, there are large numbers of ant mimics in many of the groups named, and quite a lot of others too (even snails...). Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:41, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite

[edit]

This article has grown by accretion over the years, forming a random procession of examples with little structure. Worse, the structure isn't correct, as spiders (for instance) may be Batesian or aggressive mimics of ants, so the attempt to categorise taxa by type of mimicry isn't going to work. Further, there are actually thousands of ant mimics so we should not give prominence to taxa other than as examples explicitly from a large field. Therefore, the article's main structure should be about the types of mimicry involved, and we can give a very rough idea of some of the taxa that employ each type. Pl wiki discussion on this article's translation

[edit]

Some time ago (probably smth like a month ago) there was a discussion pending on pl wiki. One of the reviewers suggested some changes which might be applicable even to the original. Here is the link: https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiprojekt:Czy_wiesz/propozycje/2024-02/Myrmekomorfia

Yes, I know it's all in Polish, that's why I suggest using an auto-translation tool, such as Google Translator, which might get you even more than a brief overview about what's happened there and what was suggested.

By the way - nice work with the expansion :)
