Safety?
[edit]This is an interesting article. I would expect that swimmers would occasionally injure themselves when the heads of the figures are just below water. Or is swimming not allowed around the work? --Allen 19:20, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- I imagine the statues are no more dangerous than ordinary rocks, and you'd probably be able to see them before you swam into them. The problem I'd expect is for them to be mistaken for real people. PeteVerdon 21:55, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Crosby beach is a non-bathing beach. But you may also have a look at the bottom lines on this, and the general information on that image ;-) Cuxhaven in fact is a bathing place, but the statues presumably were only submerged occasionaly on spring tide because of the shallow Wadden Sea ... don't no anything about the NY place. --Ü 12:43, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
Unattributed sentence
[edit]I've removed this unattributed, POV-ish sentence from the bottom of the article: Another place represents an identity not only for people of Liverpool, Crosby and beyond but for the whole existence of public art and having these figures in my home town is in it's own way similar to Gateshead (Angel of the North) in giving the area a sense of identity again. Anthony Gormley understands the power and heritage Liverpool has and how its people feel passion about its history and its future. If you think it should be there, put it back, but with reference to its origin.--Bwmodular 08:52, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Looks familiar
[edit]Sorry, I know this isn't about improving the article, but I need to know something, and I don't anywhere else to ask this. I saw a CD cover once that had 3 women on it, all nude with their backs turned, stading on water at varying distances, just like this sculpture. If this rings a bell with anyone, please let me know. Thanks. Eridani (talk) 15:48, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Situation of figures
[edit]Can anyone expand on how much input the artist has into the situation of the figures both in relation to each other and the local geography. When the figures were, or will be, at a different location will their formation be preserved? Are there any notable points at which the figures can be viewed which produces a certain effect? The article states that the local authority moved 16 figures. Was the artist consulted on their relocation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arosewarne (talk • contribs) 08:38, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Fact or opinion
[edit]I have a problem with this sentence: 'In common with most of Gormley's work, the figures are cast replicas of his own body. As the tides ebb and flow, the figures are revealed and submerged by the sea.' Gormley's work isn't mostly cast replicas of his own body: there's Field for the British Isles, which featured 40,000 clay figures created by volunteers, and Angel of the North (1994), a 20-metre-tall figure of a man with wings at Gateshead. Then there is Asian Field (2006), 180,000 clay figures created by villagers from China; Waste Man (2006), a 25-metre-tall figure made of household waste burned as part of Exodus Day in Kent. Only Time Horizon (2006), and Event Horizon (2007) use figures created from his own body apart from Another Place on Crosby Beach. So I think 'most' is innacurate. He IS a sculptor! — Preceding unsigned comment added by PetePassword (talk • contribs) 20:42, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
