Confusion
[edit]"She spins breaks" - this is incomprehensible outside a limited audience and perhaps should be replaced by something more accessible? --Rodhullandemu 01:30, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Annie's date of birth
[edit]I've had an email from Annie asking me to delete her birthdate from the article since it is (a) inaccurate and (b) private. I have had a look at Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Privacy_of_birthdays which says just to leave the year but I can see her concern. I will be watching the page to ensure it doesn't creep back. In any case, it's unsourced & fails WP:Verify. --Rodhullandemu 15:23, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
no its not she herself said she was 65 a couple of years ago http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/the-5minute-interview-annie-nightingale-radio-dj-797797.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.34.115.48 (talk) 11:40, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe so but as far as we're concerned she has asked us not to have her date of birth here. She is entitled to this per our policy and we should respect that. If she has changed her mind, she can always email me again. In any event, the source you cited did not give a date of birth, so that still fails verification. --Rodhullandemu 11:43, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- This is ridiculous. Her date of birth is easily found online. I re-inserted it. Okay, having reviewed policy, I reverted to year only. Of course, anyone can find the actual date by looking at the history of edits.KD Tries Again (talk) 15:04, 20 August 2008 (UTC)KD Tries Again.
- Ridiculous it may be but I do not want to go through the hassle of forwarding her email to OTRS and getting the WMF office to make this official. She is entitled to some consideration. --Rodhullandemu 15:11, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

- About her birth date? Anyone can google it in five seconds. Let's get real.KD Tries Again (talk) 15:15, 20 August 2008 (UTC)KD Tries Again
- I have added a reference now. The birth date also appears on other sites here, and here, here and even - HERE! - the official British Radio Academy site, where she's a member of the Hall of Fame. Please don't revert verifiable information without seeking consensus. Thanks.KD Tries Again (talk) 15:20, 20 August 2008 (UTC)KD Tries Again
- imdb is not regarded by us as a reliable source. Consensus is irrelevant to policy, and as an Admin here, it is my job to uphold policy. As I have said, I will forward her email to OTRS and the Office will now deal with this. As it is, your reference is defective since it gives her age but not her date of birth; that is a piece of original research which fails verifiability. Have your way for now, if you must. --Rodhullandemu 15:25, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- I have been providing more sources. You do realise that the External Links section lists her page at the Radio Hall of Fame, which prominently displays her full birth date. I think you should include this information in any report you make. This is better than the newspaper reference, I agree, and I will amend accordingly. Please see the other links above. Wikipedia can't be unique in withholding readily available information about her.KD Tries Again (talk) 15:28, 20 August 2008 (UTC)KD Tries Again
- Blimey, it's front and center in the Brighton link too. It's everywhere except here! KD Tries Again (talk) 16:03, 20 August 2008 (UTC)KD Tries Again
- Just because it's on the internet doesn't make it accurate. Any bit of misinformation can spread around and pretty soon be everywhere. If Miss Nightingale has not revealed her date of birth and says this date is innacurate then it probably is. One of the only ways the correct information can be supplied is if it comes from Nightingale herself and it doesn't look like she's willing to supply it. Maybe the GRO birth register is worth investigating. Crisso (talk) 01:04, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
I've just checked the birth index, and there's no sign of an Anne Nightingale with a birth registered in London in 1942. The only Anne Nightingale with a birth registered in London around this time is in the Lambeth district in 1944. So if we are sure Anne Nightingale is her birth name, then we can rule out 1942 and assume she was born in 1944. Crisso (talk) 00:09, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
- It looks like 1940 is the correct year: [1], [2]. Crisso (talk) 20:06, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Chase the Fade
[edit]On the page, it says Chase the Fade was released in 1981. In my copy of her 1999 book, Wicked Speed, it says, "Chase the Fade" (Blandford Press, 1982)" Which is the accurate year of publication? Matt Gibbs (talk) 02:40, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Update
[edit]I think the article needs to be updated with the 40 years at Radio 1 details, Andy Parfitt comments etc. Chevymontecarlo 19:09, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
Mailbag Radio 1 show
[edit]No mention of her Radion 1 evening programme, mailbag in which listners wrote in on topica/general issues. It was on Wednesdays at 7pm. Mailbag(Coachtripfan (talk) 13:07, 20 September 2013 (UTC))
Personal life?
[edit]Nothing on relationships over such a long period? Valetude (talk) 00:05, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
- Or relationship(s) / marriage, children, etc., although there is an unsourced number given for the latter (2). Without such biographical information the article reads more like a publicity flyer than an encyclopaedia article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.164.5.99 (talk) 02:55, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
TV work in 1970s?
[edit]My first encounter with Anne Nightingale was in the early 1970s when she was either hosting or co-presenting a magazine program aimed at young people, some time between 5 and 6 of a weekday evening. I have a feeling it didn't run long. It may even have been a one-off. (I have a memory of her standing looking at traffic clutching a clipboard, but I haven't a clue what the story was about now.) Anyone any idea what that might have been? If we can find a reference to it, it would be useful too post it up. --Matt Westwood 09:15, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
Longest ever running radio show?
[edit]This seems unlikely since Ray Cordeiro has been hosting the show "All the way with Ray" on RTHK Radio 3 since 1970 (Source: SCMP https://www.scmp.com/lifestyle/entertainment/article/3043625/hong-kong-musical-greats-help-radio-dj-uncle-ray-celebrate amongst others; I listen to his show most nights), and Ms Nightingale hasn't been hosting a continuously running show since then. Is the Guinness World Records really a reputable source? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.247.55.49 (talk) 13:04, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Andrews reference
[edit]In the early life and career section, approximately halfway, there is a reference to "Andrews" being a genius.
Given this is not Nightingale, and looks to be a reference to the above paragraph, I do not think it is relevant to the article. AntonyRichardLee (talk) 23:21, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
Date of lead image
[edit]The Flickr source here gives no date. But the Radio 1 logo suggests about 1978? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:12, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
- I wondered about that when considering a caption but we would need a source. The image was chosen because it was good quality and showed the subject in her prime. Also it seemed to be a publicity handout and so suitable for our fair use. Note that its caption and signature was Anne rather than Annie. I used to listen to her request show when she was Anne too, iirc. I'm not sure when she changed from Anne to Annie and the article should say something about this, if it can. Andrew🐉(talk) 08:29, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree about the name change. I also listened to her when she was just Anne. I was tempted to add a caption "Nightingale in about 1978", but as you say, we have no source. I hope the original photographer at Flickr doesn't mind too much about its use here - they might know more about a date? Martinevans123 (talk) 12:41, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- A similar card appears on Pinterest where it is captioned as "@ 50". That suggests that she was then aged 50 but I'm not convinced. On Flickr, the picture appears in an album with other Radio 1 DJs such as Paul Gambaccini who was active on that channel from 1974-86. Such context might be used to infer that she was contemporary but it's still OR, I reckon. To start, I'll add a caption saying that it shows her when she was on Radio 1, as that seems quite clear. Andrew🐉(talk) 14:47, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- I'd say she looks late-30s/ early 40s in that picture. But then I would, wouldn't I. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:56, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- The photographer at Flickr has responded to my enquiry as follows: "Off the top of my head, I can't remember when I got all my autographed photographs of Radio One DJs. My best guess would be 1984; it might have been a year or two earlier than that, but almost certainly no later. Sorry I can't be more precise; if anything crops up that jogs my memory to a more specific date, I'll let you know." Martinevans123 (talk) 21:38, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Anne / Annie
[edit]The BBC Genome project has listings from the Radio Times which give some clues about the transition from Anne to Annie. My impression is that she was formally known as Anne but informally referred to by other presenters as Annie. For example, there's a transitional listing in 1982 which reports her as "Reporter: Anne Nightingale [billed as Annie Nightingale]". Andrew🐉(talk) 09:45, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, DJ's names do change. David Jensen spent the later part of his career trying to drop the "Kid". And David Hamilton was "Diddy David" for many years. Cringe. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:00, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
