First morph of the series
[edit]"He has a pet cat named Dude, which was his first morph and the first morph of the series." Is this factual? Doesn't Visser Three's morph count as the first morph of the series? --OGoncho 22:31, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Really, really POV
[edit]Honestly, the introduction and most of the article reads like it belongs on a fan-page. Or the back of an Animorphs boxset. If you're going to use a sentence like "Applegate even has the writing style and vocabulary grow with the characters, as the first book is written by a junior high student worried about making the school basketball team, and the last book is written by a seasoned war veteran who has killed and protected, won and lost, despaired and hoped, and simply made more hard choices than normal people would make in a million lifetimes", at least cite it. Gah. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.159.15.21 (talk) 19:57, August 24, 2007 (UTC)
- Definitly agreed. I really think someone needs to rewrite it. -xystus —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.31.91 (talk) 03:13, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, definitely BETTER, but it still needs a lot of work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.159.13.243 (talk) 17:04, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
TV show
[edit]Does anyone rememember the tv show? I remember watching it on nick. I really think the tv show at least deserves a section or a link or something. It was part of the Animorphs. I as a fan recorded it when it came on. Dissapointed at the quality of the show, but not really my point. It was even advertised in the books. If you picked up a book it would usually say "Make sure to watch on Nick!" So it was there. I just don't know what to say about it.Bhold1 02:49, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- The very top of the article links to Animorphs (TV series). Timrem 03:10, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
themes
[edit]I have started a section on themes. Its a bit bare at the moment please feel free to expand it based on your own interepretations of the books. I think book #19 the departure should feature in this. Animorphs for me was more than a childrens science fiction book. I think there was a lot more to the series than simply the space war plot.
Alternate Universes
[edit]Should there be anything on the alternate universes? --OGoncho 05:25, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I think I have fixed this. --Ellmist 06:52, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Jake "Berenson"
[edit]We have absolutly no proof of Jake's last name being Berenson. No last names were mentioned in the books, and, as far as my friend inside Nickelodeon knows, Applegate forbidded their use on the show. If she claimed the last name in an interview, or any other media NOT in continuity in the TV show or book series, please conferm this. Until then, I'm erasing this piece of information from the artical. --Wack'd About Wiki 22:14, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, Jake mentions in the second to last book (#53 — The Answer) that his last name is Berenson. It's in the second sentence of Chapter 2.
His last name is also mentioned in the last book (#54 — The Beginning) in Chapter 12.My name is Jake. Jake Berenson. The days of secrecy, of lurking in the shadows are over. The Yeerks know my name. They know my height, weight, eye color, Social Security number, and favorite foods. At long last they know the word Animorph, Marco's word for us.
→ JarlaxleArtemis 03:16, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)Suddenly the reading of the indictment was over. The prosecution was ready to call its first witness. "We call Jake Berenson." I stood up. My legs were stiff from sitting.
I'm sorry, for although I'm a big fan I have not read every book, what's more, the ones I have read mostly are not in order. --Wack'd About Wiki 17:27, 27 August 2005 (UTC)
Bias Towards Taylor?
[edit]It seems to me that the author does not use a neutral point of view when describing Taylor. Words such as "Weak" and "Misguided" are (in my experience) not usually used in a neutral point of view. An argument could be put forth that Taylor was in fact stronger than she appeared, due to the fact that she returned from a near guarenteed death, in much the same manner as Edriss 562. Could the article perhaps be changed to a neutral POV? Crisco 1492 07:28, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
- Uh, remember one thing- Taylor is a bad guy. Do you expect Applegate to say something neutral about a villain? Besides, the book is written form a character's point of view, and they all hate Taylor.65.223.58.226 18:46, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Bias Towards Taylor Fixed...
[edit]I thank you for your comments concerning Taylor's bias. I gave Taylor her own section, and fixed the statement about Taylor's 'weakness' and 'misguidedness'. I also tried to discuss Taylor's strengths, but I'll try to add more to that.
Ratings Success and Sources
[edit]I'm overjoyed to hear that Animorphs was the second-most successful children's book series of all time, but I think it'd be more believable if we had some sources to back it up.

Ghostwriters?
[edit]Hi, I've heard that in the beginning of the books, when it says something like "I'd like to thank so-and-so for help with this manuscript" that that person actually wrote most of the book, and that Applegate just reviewed over it and maybe made some changes. I've heard that many changes were made in #32 (the Separation I think), where Mean Rachel was either made more mean or less mean.
Anyway, did those people really write those books? And if so, shouldn't they get proper credit in the 'List of Animorphs books' section? Amphax 01:27, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
Folks, as far as I know (quite a lot, if it's Animorphs we're talking about :P), the people who are mentioned in the dedication pages of books were NOT ghostwriters. They had supplied her with information regarding the book, or served as inspiration...but that's about it. It'd be good if someone could say for sure who's correct about this. - seph1roth, 203.112.204.213 13:22, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- It's been stated many times that, with a few minor exceptions, the dedication "The author would like to help so-and-so with their help in preparing this manuscript" means that the book was ghostwritten. --Matt 17:33, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
ghostwriters
[edit]Added some info on Ghostwriters.
All the 'info' on ghostwriting here is uncited. Isn't that verboten?
Summary of story?
[edit]This page seems to be little more then a hub of links to information about different aspects of the series. Should the maion page not be more of a summary of the books themselves and their place in the real world and all that?
Also does anyone happen to know of a summary replete with spoilers somewhere on the net? I only read to book 18 and want to know how it happened without just going and reading the last one...--Josquius 14:08, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
This page definitely needs a summary of the series as a whole, spoilers included. Anyone interested?
Am taking off the "14 years old" in the beginning of the summary considering that Jake says in book #53 that he was 13. Some of the others might have been 14, but they clearly were not all 14. I'm putting teenagers instead.
Images?
[edit]I really think perhaps the cover of Book #1 (The Invasion, I think) should be posted. Without at least one image the article looks a little untidy and maybe unprofessional. Can anyone help with this?
Species List
[edit]The list of Species featured in Animorphs absolutely needs to be made a seperate article. It looks extremely untidy.
- On the list of species, Chan Wath redirects here. I don't remember the Chan Wath, but I'm sure it should have its own article. If anyone can write it, they should. --Zach Hammond 03:52, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Monterey?
[edit]When is it revealed that the city the animorphs live in is Monterey, California? Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii 17:10, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
- Cues in the series make it obvious that they lived in California, but the Animorphs' home town was never named. Retrotree (talk) 23:32, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Terminology
[edit]THe terminology links redirect to either the articles of the respective species or to the animorphs article. This looks like vandalism. -User:INH 21:51, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Or maybe someone just thought the topics did not deserve their own articles, and thus made them redirects. --OGoncho 19:16, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I doubt it, considering that those articles contained information that was not available in the articles they were changed into redirects to. -User:INH 18:00, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Morals, reader impact
[edit]I think we need a section that describes the lessons taught in the books. eg: Be careful when killing a monster, that you don't become one yourself. Turidoth 04:25, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- I noticed that as well, and added the general idea to the 'Themes' section in the form of the Animorph's oft-stated 'Fight the enemy, don't become them' mantra. DarkMasterBob 02:24, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Last names
[edit]I don't think we should display the main characters' last names, because they were purposely not given until the end of the series. Under the individual characters' article is a different matter. Keep the spoilers section to strictly the summary instead of the entire article. This includes the disclosure of surnames, in my book. --EndlessVince 22:01, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. Thanks for doing so.--Lkjhgfdsa 22:12, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Continuity Problems
[edit]The continuity problems section is currently all about the location of the Animorphs' home town. Should it also include internal consistency issues? Like the two-way thought-speech in the first book. UncreativeNameMaker 04:08, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- I think this seriously veers on WP:NOR and WP:POV. Wikipedia should only include major viewpoints - that is, by another source. However, Animorphs has been extordinarily low-key - running from 1996-2001, in the infancy of the Internet, not much has been published online about this series. Even if it had been published in this era, I highly doubt that any major organizations or anything would have published anything on it. I pruned out some commentary and tried to make it more factual in nature though... Hbdragon88 18:51, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Another sticky point is Elfangor's family photo on his crashed ship. Either Elfangor had two (Andalite) kids which we don't know about (!), or the more mundane explanation is it was an old photo of his parents and Ax kept for sentimental value. The kids in the pic were "very small", so it must have been taken just after Elfangor's big return. Turidoth (talk) 23:00, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Removal
[edit]I've removed the following section from the article:
- In the last book, the hometown of the Animorphs is stated to be somewhere near Santa Barbara, California. However, this is contradicted by the descriptions of the animals that the Animorphs acquire and encounter. For instance, Applegate depicts wild packs of wolves in forest areas in the state. However, no wolves have existed in the wild in California since 1924 [1].
- Grizzly bears became extinct in the wild in 1909, and the last grizzly in captivity died around 1922 [2]. After this no grizzly bear, which is Rachel's dominant morph, lived in California until 1996, the year Scholastic published Animorphs and likely a while after Applegate originally wrote Rachel's morph into the storyline. A mother grizzly from Yellowstone National Park, along with her two young cubs, faced euthanasia for coming too close to visitors. Moonridge Animal Park, a small wildlife rescue preserve in Big Bear, led a fundraising effort to rescue the three [3]. No other facility in California has grizzly bears to this date. Rachel acquires the grizzly morph at Cassie's mother's zoo, nowhere near the wildlife preserves.
- The Animorphs' slang also comes into question in terms of their location. Specifically, Jake exclaims, "That was so absolute!" in reference to how flying feels. Later in the same book, Tobias explains that it feels good to sit on the couch watching television with some "pop" (soft drinks). People native to Southern California do not speak this way. Some of the jargon that the Animorphs use aligns more with East Coast and/or Mid-West than Californian. However, it is possible that some of the Animorphs were not born in this place, thus allowing such slang to be OK, or have parents who were not born in such areas, thus influencing such slang through domination of "nurture" compared to "nature" raising.
Hey Canadians say pop too. A lot more than anywhere in the U.S.A. I know you don't think an animorph is lowly enough to have been Canadian, but its possible. Really.
All of these supposed problems are minor quibbles that are explained in the book if you care to look.
- Wolves in California: Cassie specifically states that wolves were being reintroduced in their area.
- Grizzly bears in zoos: OK, so there were no zoos with grizzly bears in California at that time. There were no Yeerks in California either. This is a tiny thing to pick at, which does not require a huge stretch of the imagination and easily fits under poetic license.
- Slang terms: This offers its own explanation, and even if it were valid I don't think it's worth mentioning without the other two.
Please don't revert this without discussing it first. Battle Ape 12:41, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
List of Animorphs books
[edit]I was about to wiki-link the list of ghost-written books to the books' articles when I noticed that some books have their own article, while other articles are done in sections of 10 books. Is there any rhyme or reason to this? We should have a codified way of doing that, be it groups of ten or individually. My vote is that each book have its own article, so we CAN wiki-link to the seperate articles if need be. Any thoughts before I actually change this? --EndlessVince 04:46, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- There's no reason for it, we're just in the process of changing the books from ten books per page to each book having its own page, and we haven't quite finished the move yet =)--Matt 11:15, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
The things I deleted in my edit
[edit]The reader watches as each of these individuals grow up, struggling to cope with the horrors of this war, the acts which they must commit, the compromises and retreats they must make to win the war (and sometimes even just to survive), because losing means a fate worse than death. The most captivating aspect of this series is the ability to watch as these six "normal" children are shaped and molded by their new, outrageous circumstances, and forced to grow up so quickly in order to fight, and to survive. As time passes and this secret, guerrilla war drags on, the reader sees all the characters (even the enemies) mature and grow in complexity as their battles get harder, their compromises more costly, their morals wavering, and their sanity slipping. K.A. Applegate, in her genius, even has the writing style grow with the characters, as the first book is written by a junior high student worried about making the school basketball team, and the last book is written by a seasoned war veteran who has killed and protected, won and lost, despaired and hoped, and simply made more hard choices than normal people would make in a million lifetimes. THAT is Animorphs.
Things like "the most captivating aspect" and "in her genius" are definitely not acceptable for wikipedia, obviously, but I rewrote everything that preceded these paragraphs. It was a bit long for an intro anyway. I hope I didn't offend the author of this section; your writing was good, it was just very biased. If anyone has any ideas on how to improve these paragraphs and remove the POV violations, i.e. all of it, do so. JRNorbergé 21:58, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
New-Style Book Covers
[edit]On the page for The Alien, the cover picture shows an edition of the book with the old, no-black-rectangle titles and non-shiny animorphs logo. Was this edition ever actually published, or did Scholastic's first printing have the shiny titles? If this is not so, and some books were released without shiny ink, then The Secret was the first book purely printed with new titles, and I'll change Books section accordingly. AniRaptor2001 (talk) 17:15, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Video games

Models
[edit]Can anyone give me the names of the child models on the covers. including ,if possible, both tobias'es (On #43, and #49 they got a new kid who was more accurate to his description) as well. 71.176.168.42 (talk) 09:56, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've never seen any info about them online, though I'd be interested if someone did dig something up. 124.197.51.163 (talk) 00:30, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- I liked the blond Tobias model better, too, but Scholastic will never tell (and never did tell) who their current model(s) is/are, for privacy concerns. We do know that Cassie was portrayed on every single cover of the original series by a girl named Biko, but that's it. The 2011 models are nameless again, as well, and the original models are all grown up. dogman15 (talk) 07:22, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
Character Relationships
[edit]Wouldn't it make more sense for the character relationships to be on the character pages? It could just be me, but I think it would be more useful for their relationships and interactions to be on the separate pages. 67.190.233.21 (talk) 00:47, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- I don't mind it being in the main article, but I see your point. If others are in support, I may start rewriting this section for inclusion on the individual character pages. As it stands, I cleaned up this section of the main article a lot. 124.197.51.163 (talk) 00:20, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Done - I've added character relationship sections to each character page. However, these probably need to be fleshed out a bit more. I've left the existing section in the main article intact. Retrotree (talk) 01:42, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Accuracy?
[edit]At the beginning of this page, it says "Four humans, one bird, and one alien obtain the ability to morph into any animal they touch;...". Admittedly, I have not looked at this series in years, but I remember Tobias being human when he first received the ability to morph. In the first book, he chooses to stay beyond the 2 hour limit and to become a hawk (bird). Later he has to receive the ability to morph again (with hawk being his "true form" as I remember it being referred to). Yet, the way it is phrased here in the article makes it seem he was always a hawk. This interpretation would be inconsistent with the character relationships section, where it says Jake saves Tobias from a group of bullies. I think this sentence may need to be rephrased. SindarGrey —Preceding undated comment was added at 14:22, 29 September 2008 (UTC).
- It does need to be rephrased. Go ahead and do that in a couple days, after your sign-up grace period is over. Westrim (talk) 10:05, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Confusing
[edit]Someone may want to mention that this series can become quite confusing if you miss a large section of the book, as you will have no idea what is happening. 3bman92 (talk) 16:25, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
I disagree, the first books I read were in the 20s, the first chapter explains everything pretty clearly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.75.76.0 (talk) 07:55, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
One more Tolkien reference
[edit]Something to add to the list of Tolkien references. I could be wrong, but I doubt it's a coincidence that Jake's last name is Berenson, and Beren Erchamion is one of the most important characters in The Silmarillion. -Agur bar Jacé (talk) 18:54, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Tobias and Rachel's first kiss?
[edit]Under the character section: Tobias and Rachel first kiss in book #33, The Illusion. Is this accurate? They also kiss in Megamorphs 3 (while on the grounds of Princeton College, when Tobias discovers she didn't die in the sea battle), which *checks* was released in April of 1999, whereas The Illusion was released in August of that year.
"Rachel!" Tobias yelped. And a millisecond later he had spun around, grabbed her, and kissed her. Then he held her back at arm's length. "You're dead!" Alanahikarichan (talk) 07:50, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Inaccuracy regarding illustration
[edit]All the covers of the regular series books had a small cutout over part of the full morph's anatomy, revealing a computer-generated illustration on the first page, which was printed on glossy paper.
I know that in Book 2 it actually wasn't computer-generated, but a painting. Unfortunately, I only ever read about half the books, so I don't know how extensive it was, but they definitely weren't all computer-generated. 97.104.210.67 (talk) 22:11, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- You're absolutely right. That line should be changed! AniRaptor2001 (talk) 22:35, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Differences in the 2011 version
[edit]I think we should have a section in The Invasion (Animorphs), The Visitor (Animorphs), and future books as they're re-released, that covers in modest detail any changes made to the books. This would mostly consist of KASU (Katherine Applegate Screws Up) errors (like Jake thinking at Tobias) and any updates to pop culture references (like Rachel's nickname being changed from Xena to Storm). The third-best selling children's book series? A television series spinoffs. I say this is mid-importance. Hbdragon88 18:49, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but this is a misinformed assertion. Animorphs was hardly spun off from the TV series; the TV show was released around the same time that the 20th book of the series had been released. A quick google search turns up several pages confirming Animorphs' popularity as a book series in its time: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FVE/is_13_3/ai_50104259 under 'Children's Paperback Series Bestsellers' shows Animorphs in first place in 1998. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_1998_June_9/ai_50066603 is another testament to the series' popularity. Admittedly it is not the third-best selling children's books series of all time; as for what place it holds, total book sales information is hard to come by.AniRaptor2001 17:38, 2 August 2007 (UTC) |

What was their city?
[edit]Was it ever made clear what city the animorphs lived in? The only details are that it was in South California, near the coast. A medium sized city, too, so that rules out Los Angeles and San Diego. Theres a popular fanfic called The Reckoning, which identifys the animorphs hometown as Ventura. Is there any credit to this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Myopia1 (talk • contribs) 08:18, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- According to her Wikipedia article, the author K. A. Applegate lived in Irvine, California for many years. I assume this was her inspiration. Cuvtixo (talk) 15:34, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Character's Ages? Really? Nominate for Deletion
[edit]I'd like to nominated the character's ages section for deletion. Perhaps this is of a lot more importance to the audience than I appreciate, but I see no indication that the ages were of much importance to the author. It seems quite likely to me that she had no definite ages in mind, or even different ideas about their ages at differing points in the series. From the section I gather the ages were a point of debate among the readership (I grew up before the internet. If debated online, I have little idea under what circumstances this took place). Unless there is an article or interview with the author about the ages of the characters that can be cited, I think the whole section can be deleted. Statements by the author would be Wikipedia-worthy (although not 100% reliable. Authors have been known to make up details of their characters and inspirations during interviews). Obviously I'm not going to delete unilaterally, I only heard of this series today from an online cartoon XKCD (xkcd.com) and came here out of idle curiosity. I am mostly concerned about consistent quality in Wikipedia articles Cuvtixo (talk) 15:22, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- Far from the ages being unimportant to the author, since the target audience for the series was kids and young adults I think the ambiguity in ages was likely strategically deliberate. Getting your readers to identify with your heroes is key to keeping them hooked into the series and buying new books as they come out. All of us to some extent -- and teens in particular -- find it easier to identify with fictional characters which we can imagine to be close to our own age. Keeping the exact ages of the characters "fuzzy" was a stroke of genius, and integral to the series success. Given that level of importance, the section on characters' ages is entirely appropriate to the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.89.176.249 (talk) 00:39, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
Taxxons
[edit]No mention of Taxxons anywhere in the article? Weren't they the fourth-most prominent alien species in the series? I know there aren't any significant individual Taxxon characters, but surely a mention of them as a species could go on the character list, with a brief description?
