Assessment
[edit]I have assessed this as a Stub, as it only contains the basic information on the topic, and of low importance, as I do not feel that many people outside of Canada would be familiar with the subject of the article. Cheers, CP 14:58, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Since the above assessment, I have added substantial information to this entry. I am in the process of adding more on Macdonald's years in Ottawa and his last terms as premier of Nova Scotia. Bwark (talk) 14:34, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
- Upgraded to B without hesitation, which is the highest class one can give without a formal review. I suggest taking it to WP:GA, as a quick glance indicates that it's fairly solid and you might get some good tips for improvement there. Cheers, CP 17:09, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
So,hang on, this guy proposed that taxes be distributed among the poor and then 'died suddenly in office'. Am I the only one to smell a rat?Tgyuid (talk) 02:01, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
GA review
[edit]Main concern is getting quotations properly cited. And a lack of any legacy/aftermath section after his death

If you take this to FAC, the inline link in the second paragraph of Early life will need to be removed.Likewise, if you're going to FA, you will want to have User:Brighterorange run his dash script over the article. Drop a note on his talk page asking him to do it.Usual form is to refer to the subject by the last name except at the first mention. Probably should change all the Angus L. Macdonald's and Angus L's to Macdonald's
* Civil service work section, first pargarph, you might reword the second sentence to avoid the ambiguity in the last part of the sentence ("when he personally prosecuted a case" is a bit unclear who the he referred to there. Not terribly unclear, but it is a bit)
- Same section and paragraph. next to last paragraph, the quotation that starts "No miner can remain.." needs a source citation on it.
Same for the next paragraph, the quotation starting "very active and powerful..."Same for the quote in First Term as premier section, that starts "ministers were fresh motivated ..."- Same for Tourism and Nova with the quote starting "as a place where urban, middle-class..." Also, that sentence is missing a period at the end. I didn't put it in because I wasn't sure about whether it went inside or outside the quote marks.
More quotes in this paragraph need cites, the ones starting "They witnessed the ..." and "the romanticized culture..." and "Macdonald believed..."Citation for the quote in Wartime Federal career, second paragraph, starting "I told Mr. King that I did..."And for the quote in Building the navy that starts "few of its ships and .."I know the article is long, but it is totally lacking in a legacy section that describes what long lasting effects he had. Anything named for him? Did his policies continue? Did the LIberals get defeated? What happened to the corruption issues that were being raised?I don't know what the status is on copyright in Canada, but you might want to get an opinion on whether http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Angus_l_provincial_liberal_book.jpg is really able to be relased as copyright free.
- Really a nice article. I'm not a great copyeditor, so I can't testitfy to the brilliance of the prose, but it is readable. At times it seemed a bit wordy, so you might get a good copyedit before FAC (which, given the article's strengths, I'd expect you are aiming for.)
I've put the article on hold for seven days to allow folks to address the issues I've brought up. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, or here with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. - Passing it now. Looks great, when will we see it at FAC? Ealdgyth - Talk 16:04, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
FAC
[edit]Dates are linked in the lead, but not elsewhere; need to be consistent. Either unlink them all or link them all
- Thanks for your suggestions. I've unlinked dates in the lead.
I found errors of logical punctuation, see WP:PUNC.
I also found WP:LAYOUT and WP:ITALICS errors, so I suggest asking User:Epbr123 to do a MoS check.
- I've asked User:Epbr123 for the MoS check.
Also, if the blue box is a direct quote, it should be cited.
- I've provided the citation for the direct quote in the blue box. Thanks again. Bwark (talk) 14:41, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Addition of questionable paragraphs
[edit]In the section "Building the navy" several paragraphs and a photo have been added that were taken from the entry John Moreau Grant. I question whether all of this information and the photo is needed in this entry since it already appears in another entry. Furthermore, it is out of chronological order and its citations do not follow the formatting of the rest of this feature article. (No page numbers for example.) I'm proposing to shorten this passage considerably, move it to a more appropriate place in this section and eliminate the unnecessary photo. Bwark (talk) 14:28, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- I have eliminated the photo and text pasted from the entry John Moreau Grant. It might be appropriate to include a brief mention of Royal Roads Military College but there would need to be a proper citation to support it. Bwark (talk) 23:11, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
