Day Job?
[edit]Obviously, someone who gets as little as work as does Angelyne in the entertainment industry must have other jobs to support herself. What does she do to make ends meet? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.97.4 (talk) 07:19, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Although it's not mentioned here in the article, Angelyne did not pay for the billboards. The owner of the billboard company was obsessed with Angelyne, and put them up for free on his vacant billboards. The man's daughter recently wrote a book about her fathers obsession, and how it affected life in their home. I don't recall her, the owners name, or the name of the book. They interviewed this woman on 89.3 KPCC when the book came out. Maybe someone can dig the info up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.123.158.60 (talk) 03:08, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- When I first moved to L.A., I asked a friend, "How does she pay for all those billboards?" My friend said, "In Hollywood, sometimes it's best not to ask." Codenamemary (talk) 19:15, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- If you ever happen to be sitting next to her at Baskin Robbins, you'll see that people come up to her asking to buy signed pictures, t-shirts, books, and albums. She keeps a good supply in the back of the 'vette, and they sell well. Wouldn't be surprised if she took in $400/day (tax free) that way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.215.115.31 (talk) 23:17, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Much Older Than 50
[edit]This woman is considerably older than 50. She's looking at 60 in her rearview mirror. I've seen her face to face. Reality is not pretty.
- to remain on a "neutral" tone, I have ALSO heard that while she is "body hot," plastic surgery has done nothing to slow the aging process. she does seem to be one of the immortal figures of Hollywood/L.A. though. It would be interesting to see, for whoever chooses to complete this entry, if the inclusion of the ranting and frequent attacks by a New Times L.A. writer will make it to the entry. The New Times L.A. is no more (since 2002) but every week there was a new article by this writer where he would talk about his obsessive hate for the pin up. --HatchetFaceBuick 18:31, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- If she was 44 in 2007, she would have been 11 in 1974 (she is stated to have appeared in a movie then), if she was born in 1958 she was 16 at the time. Does anyone own this movie, Phantom of the Paradise? It should not be that hard to discount at least one of those, and although I acknowledge that original research is not encouraged in Wikipedia articles, I don't see the problem in finding out whether some claim is impossible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andreas Willow (talk • contribs) 20:54, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Completely unbiased ... Here's what I know about her - These days, she is little more than a con artist. I know many people in Hollywood who've personally known Angelyne over the years. Celebrities, artists, party goers, etc. These people were around in the early 80s, and all remember Angelyne from the club scene, KROQ radio parties, Allie Willis's house parties, and the Sunset strip. All of them say the same thing - she was in her late thirties/early forties back in 1984/85. That would put her in her late sixties/early seventies today. One man, her publicist in the early 90s, mentioned that Angelyne habitually wore sunglasses tilted down on her face in photos to hide the botched cheek implants she received. Another recent acquaintance who used to be friends with her and rented her west LA apartment, said that her billboard investor, who she had worked with since 1982, had passed away and that she had resorted to prostitution with wealthy business men from Japan as a means to survive. Today, she refuses to be photographed when spotted by anyone, will only do interviews by phone, and is currently (2010) selling off the Malibu condo that the billboard owner purchased for her some ten years agoin order to pay back storage/office space fees owed. She also goes around to the parking lots of gay nightclubs, selling old Angelyne merchandise out of the trunk of her car according to the LA Weekly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.234.126.83 (talk) 07:04, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
The range of birth years for Angelyne is 1934-1973. I personally believe based on evidence I've gathered that she was really born in 1938. Like someone already said, she was definitely already in her 40's in the 80's. She's a magician when it comes to applying make-up and hiding her true identity. There were rumors that she is a transgendered woman hence her true identity being a huge secret. But I think that is bull. Anyways, we'll most likely find out what really happened to JFK and Marilyn Monroe and the location of Jimmy Hoffa's body way before we find out who she really is! ;) - DeCo
I've also seen her numerous times all over Hollywood and I'd say late 60's / early 70's sounds accurate. If TMZ actually cared, I'm sure they could easily dig up her birth certificate. 63.92.241.249 (talk) 03:04, 26 June 2016 (UTC) Darwin
Pink Corvette?
[edit]Doesn't she drive some sort of hot-pink car? jengod 22:54, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yes. We spotted her yesterday on the 101 freeway near I-405 driving a hot-pink (well, more Pepto Bismol colored) with California plates 'Angelyne'. We got next to her doing 60+ mph and she kinda looks like her photos, only much older. Someone here guessed over 60. She's at least that old.. --68.4.26.97 03:47, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- Here is a CC2 photo, not good. TGCP (talk) 15:55, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Picture?
[edit]since Angelyne is famous for her billboards (if you are from So. Cal. and have been to Hollywood in the last 20 yrs. you would know this), how come no one has put up a picture yet? --HatchetFaceBuick 18:26, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed, it's a travesty. --Bobak 22:55, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
I ran into her today at the drugstore, and ended up buying a t-shirt in exchange for a photo with her. She covered her face (except her eyes) for the shot-- keeping some of that Angelyne mystique alive, I guess. I'd guess she's in her 50s right now and IMHO looks great. She was extremely nice, and talked to everyone that recognized her. A true Hollywood/L.A. icon... by the way, I don't know how to edit the entry to add images, but if someone wants to add my photos (I have a picture with her, and a great shot of her car), just email me and I'm happy to give them to you for inclusion on Wikipedia. --Pnoeric (talk) 02:20, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
There's a 2007 photo of her here: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1130/528116267_8d5e1ecd0d.jpg?v=0
This photo at TMZ was posted in 2007, but is obviously much older: http://www.tmz.com/2007/06/20/scaffolding-goes-up-around-angelyne/
If she was 22 in 1980, then she'd be 50 today, but from that photo I'd guess 60s. Lippard (talk) 18:05, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- I clicked on the first flickr image. You didn't include the URL of the page, just of the image. So we don't know how it is liscenced...
- I used flickr's advanced search to look for images of her compatible with the liscenses the flickr tools will help upload. I found four, none of which is the one you linked above. If you uploaded that image you will have to change the liscense. Geo Swan (talk) 22:15, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- This tool is very handy for helping to upload flick images. You cut the unique flick ID, and paste it in the little box, and it generates the description for you.
- I did that with the image you like. Here is the result. Note, it says: "Flickr, licensed as "Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs License" which is not a free license..." Geo Swan (talk) 22:22, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
It Should Happen to You
[edit]Was Angelyne inspired by the 1954 motion picture, It Should Happen to You, in which an out-of-work model named Gladys Glover, wanting to "be somebody," spends the last of her money to have her name put on a billboard... and through various plot twists leverages herself into national prominence? Angelyne's Real Name and Age
[edit]I always thought Angelyne was born in Poland and escaped prior to World War II. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.54.18.181 (talk) 04:59, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
According to Angelyne, she is from polish decent, but was born in Idaho. Her real name is supposedly Renee Strauss, and claims to be orphaned after her parents tragically passed away. The name Angelyne, was the name of her band ( think Blondie) and she adopted the name after the promo posters of her with the band name began appearing around LA. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.234.126.83 (talk) 07:18, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
According to the research I did online which I might add was quite difficult to obtain, her real name according to IMDB is Renee Goldberg and she allegedly was born in Idaho in 1958. That obviously is a lie. I have seen this woman up close in person and seen her arms and hand which usually are tell tale of age even when work is done. She is at minimum 75 and probably closer to 80. I am betting also that since all information has been expunged from the internet, that in fact this woman may even have been formerly the opposite gender. She has an air about her that makes you think she is a sort of drag queen which is often indicative of MTF transgender persons. This is just a guess. I cannot verify this obviously since I cannot actually force her to show me her driver's license. I wish I could get an LAPD officer to pull her over in the pink corvette and have a peek. It is possible she is telling the truth about being born in Idaho. However all my research to find records of birth have failed. I will give her this...she is an expert at remaining a mystery. Curious if anyone in LA area knows the actual scoop. Please update if so. All of the above is conjecture and not based on facts that I can verify.

- Her real name is Angelyne, as that is the name she is known by. Her legal name is Angelyne L'Lyne, her former name was Renée Tami Goldberg, and her birth name was Ronia Tamar Goldberg, all of this according to documents referenced in a recent exposé on the situation. Ms. L'Lyne's former legal name and birth name shouldn't be given as her "real" names since they are neither her legal names nor names which refer to her any longer. 24.222.247.244 (talk) 01:19, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
Vanity plate
[edit]The article states that her car has a vanity plate ANGELYNE. This would seem to be a decorative or altered item, as legal vanity license plates in California are limited to 7 characters. (And before anyone brings it up: yes, that means the Back To The Future plate OUTATIME is fake as well.) I'm not saying that she doesn't have placards that say that, but I'm not sure if calling them "vanity plates" is quite accurate, as that suggests a government-issued plate. --Nat Gertler (talk) 13:32, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
- One of the Flickr links above leads to a picture of a car with ANGLYNE. —Tamfang (talk) 01:08, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
- I have a photo of the car, taken by myself. The license is ANGLYNE. And somebody had a fender bender with it a couple of weeks ago. Trackinfo (talk) 05:15, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
WP:BLP outlines a number of factors to take into account before listing an anonymous person's identity. I don't see any discussion having taken place about this here, so I've provisionally removed all the information in question until some sort of consensus can be reached. The two main questions, it seems to me, are 1) Does Angelyne want this information to be kept private? and 2) If so, does our readers' interest in knowing this information outweigh her interest in having it kept private?
BLP encourages us to be very conservative in any even slightly questionable situation, so I would politely request that no one restore this information unless a consensus is reached to do so. At the moment, I'm personally neutral on whether to restore it or not. I took this action simply as a matter of policy, not of editorial opinion. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 10:35, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
- I'm not taking a position on inclusion of the information but Angelyne is not "an anonymous person". That would be an entirely different situation. This is a person who has quite literally made a career out of promoting herself. World's Lamest Critic (talk) 12:34, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
Seriously, just say "believed to be Ronia Tamar Goldberg" and "x source believes her to be age 66 and born in Poland". --Aleccat 15:54, 11 August 2017 (UTC) Unclear what the initial concern is here. WP:BLP says nothing about "anonymous persons." Angelyne is a public figure. 13:30, 21 August 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.33.112.227 (talk)
words on the billboards
[edit]- Angelyne is an American singer, actress, personality and model who came to prominence in 1984 after the appearance of a series of iconic billboards in and around Los Angeles, California which read only "Angelyne" and pictured her posing suggestively.
I lived in Los Angeles in 1984, and the Hollywood billboard I remember said Angelyne Rocks. —Tamfang (talk) 21:20, 27 October 2017 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, there's no way to prove that is what the billboard said, so we have to stick to sources. The source says what you quoted. It'd be OR to change it without a credible source. --Aleccat 01:20, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know. I guess I hoped my comment would spur someone (with the same memory and better resources) to find a source! —Tamfang (talk) 06:26, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
Hollywood Reporter article
[edit]The information about Angelyne in the Hollywood Reporter is untrue. I work for her and have submitted her DL multiple times for verification of identity. This article is damning and has been causing serious problems. One example: The pharmacy misplaced her prescription recently because a technician looked up her birthday on Wikipedia, which is not the correct one. Additionally, the Hollywood Reporter is the only source to have found this so-called truth and I feel should not be used as a credible source since it is a one-off. In fact, the source of this article is based off an unnamed genealogist who actually says he can't reveal his identity because he works for the government and has top-secret security clearance. That sounds absolutely ridiculous.Dewll (talk) 22:42, 14 October 2019 (UTC) Dewll (talk) 19:38, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
- Bull. I have never heard of a pharmacy employee using wikipedia to figure out a famous customer's birthday.
- That's about as dumb as Amanda Lepore saying she lost her birth certificate because the hospital which had the only copy burned down. 2603:7080:C00:315:64C3:8F8F:8820:49A3 (talk) 23:18, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
We know it's you, Scott. Records don't lie. Angelyne IS Ronia Tamar Goldberg or rather was. She IS 69 years old. No amount of plastic surgery, special lighting or airbrushing/photoshop will erase the official records. It's amazing how far you are willing to play Max von Mayerling to her Norma Desmond. After all, you've been doing it for 40 years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:6000:6C42:4400:9469:BDDD:FF8D:2344 (talk) 18:10, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
The rumor that Angelyne's real name was Renee Goldberg has been around long before the Hollywood Reporter article. It's even referenced in the newspaper where she applied to have her name legally changed to Angelyne. Her family members, friends and even former husband have all confirmed that she was Ronia/Renee. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.255.64.243 (talk) 01:25, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
