Sources

[edit]

Okay, I know this page is low-importance, but this is driving me insane. NONE of the sources in the article are actual sources. In fact, Theoi lists Angelia with a completely different set of parents, and ZERO cthonic ties. Beyond that, in the translation of Theocritus' Idylls on Theoi, Angelia is never mentioned in Idyll 2.

The references stated are in themselves impossible. Sophron lived over a century before Theocritus, so there's no possible way he's involved in anything regarding Theocritus' Idylls. He's also never mentioned by name in the article, only the references, which I'm sure is against usual standards for an article. The one reference that seems to actually exist, 4, is in German, and which, as far as I'm aware, has no translation into English, so using it as a source on an English language page is problematic. @Sakurabomb: The Angelia with this page on Theoi.com is a different person and has her own page here. Note that the source which the article references is a scholion on Theocritus' Idylls, not the Idylls themselves (scholia are commentaries on a work by a later author). The article doesn't claim that Sophron is the scholiast, rather that he is presumably where the scholiast (and Hesychius) are gaining their information. Also, note that by WP:NONENG, non-English sources are acceptable assuming they are reliable and that there are no English sources of equal usefulness available. Hope this clears up your confusion. – Michael Aurel (talk) 19:37, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Heck, I didn't see that other page. Also wasn't aware of the policy on non-English references, thanks for that. I'm still a bit new here. Sakurabomb (talk) 07:41, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
