NOT the first woman across the Indian Ocean

[edit]

This article is misleading (mostly because the "news" article it cites is even more misleading). Angela Madsen was not the first woman to row across the Indian Ocean. There was another woman (as well as 6 men) on the 2009 trans-Indian Ocean trip: Helen Taylor. The two were, jointly, the first two women to cross the Indian Ocean-- not Angela alone. Here is a source on the trip: http://www.rowoflife.com/Indian_Ocean_8.html, and here is Helen Taylor's own account: http://indianoceanrow.blogspot.com.

If anybody who can figure out Wikipedia's ever-increasingly byzantine format for citing sources wants to correct the article using those sources, feel free. I however, cannot make heads or tails of it. Thanks, Wikipedia.... 23:22, 16 September 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.159.249.162 (talk)

We 'the contributors' go on good faith when we cite articles, and if we are mislead, as you state then it is simply that, an error. Wikipedia is a work in progress, and errors occur, just like in main stream news-bodies. We try to be precise but as you pointed out we do slip up. I will correct the article, but maybe you would like to help out in future by correcting errors yourself. It's how we make things better. But.. she is still the first woman to cross the Indian Ocean, even if held jointly. FruitMonkey (talk) 23:38, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
