Where is the info on his first bit of fame on IFILM ????? This wiki info is about SNL.
- It wasn't solely on iFilm. And that's covered on Lonely Island. Because Saturday Night Live is much more important career-wise. -- Viewdrix 03:49, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Adding Info
My reason for putting David letterman apperance on this page (and then seeing later it was deleted) was to give viewers information about andy. They might have tivo'd david letterman everynight but wondering which one to watch, they could see that andy was on it. Also information is information, maybe it shouldent have gone under trivia, but under a new category titled, "Apperances". Btw on letterman he told a story about Jack Bauer (the guy from 24 (television)) showing up in one of there shot's for a lonlyisland video. If people knew he was on letterman, and then watch it more people could contribute to information here on Andy Samberg at wikipedi. -Swerty 20:35, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- The chances of someone having TiVoed every Letterman episode looking for Andy Samberg and coming to wikiepdia to see which one to watch is pretty remote. There are what, 10 talk shows that have celebrity appearances every day (sometimes 3 celebrities per show), some 200+ days a year? Are we going to document who appeared on each and every one? No, we're not. Samberg shouldn't be an exception. It just isn't encyclopedic information. Wikipedia is not a TiVo helper. -R. fiend 20:44, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- ok, i agree about the tivo. but let's say if someone is a fan of Andy then they might like to try to find that episode of letterman on google video or youtube. that is more likely. I think it's very important that it be included in this page b/c andy is what i feel a "rising Celebrity" and so he will be on more and more talk shows/ and make more guest apperances. are we going to ignore all these? I feel Information should be vast even though it may be small. "Information is Information". am i totally wrong on this? come on dude. Fans of andy are going to come here and will find a way to watch that letterman episode! It seams theres a problem with the fact that the information is such a suddle detail, but it's not like andy's page is overflowing with information, right? let's make it bigger and start with this information about david letterman. Let's make a compromise my friend! - Swerty 02:00, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- If a fan of Mr. Samberg is so concerned about tv appearances that he or she turns to Wikipedia for guidance, they would probably be better off using a tv listing website. And if they do turn to YouTube, the performance will be up there to find with a simple "Andy Samberg" search on that particular site.
- I also understand that many people are avid fans of Andy, but they would probably be better off doing a generic web search for a Andy Samberg fan site or perhaps use the Lonely Island site itself. Trying force wikipedia into filling that role is hardly encyclopedic.--sigmafactor 03:56, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- [edit conflict] Here's the thing, you seem to be arguing that because Samberg has had few appearances on talk shows, those that he has had are worthy of note. So once he gets too many to bother keeping track of, they will all be removed. I mean, certainly at one point Tom Cruise had few enough talk show appearances that his first one with Carson or whoever would have been worthy of mention in his article, but at this point giving each one mention would be just silly (except those that are actually notable, like his Lauer interview or his jumping Oprah's couch, but those are the exceptions rather than the rule). So with Samberg we'd just be adding info that we know will be removed eventually anyway, which, in my mind, is not the way to go. We should be building articles that have information that will remain significant, as much as possible. A single talk show appearance certainly will not. There are external links we can provide that will have all such information that is worthy of an entertainment site that is just not what goes in an encycloepdia. Out imdb link has his appearance; people can find it (and will find all subsequent ones) there. Wikipedia just is not the imdb. -R. fiend 04:08, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, Thanks for the Great Debate, I will not be adding the David Letterman Apperance b/c it is not Encycolopedic, and thanks to Sigmafactor and R. friend, i understand the difference between IMDB and Wikipedia. Thanks Guys, You have tought me alot.
- Always glad to help. -R. fiend 18:45, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Saturday Night Live Impressions
I noticed that the section about Andy's Saturday Night Live impressions was deleted, I'm assuming because of a lack of citations. Other cast members, such as Fred Armisen, still have their impressions listed. Would it be okay to cite to Hulu.com? Those videos would clearly demonstrate Andy impersonating, for example, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. If we are forced to cite to articles, many of Andy's impressions may not be listed. For example, I doubt that any newspaper documented Andy playing one of the two kids from the Suite Life of Zack and Cody. As a fan, I'd like to see this section included; it's an important reference point for SNL fans. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.235.79.117 (talk) 17:07, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
- Another editor deleted it...claim's it's trivia, but that's questionable. Just copy it from my last edit and cite hulu and snl.jt.com. Thanks for expressing disbelief at the deletion Purplebackpack89 (talk) 01:37, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- It is trivia as per WP:TRIVIA we need not to rely upon original research, ie watch it here on hulu and cite that, rather we need to find non-trivial coverage of such impressions printed in reliable third party publications, multiple publications of that kind if at all possible. See also WP:UNDUE as we should not be throwing off the balance of this article unnecessarily with a trivial list, again, especially if third parties have not taken note of such a list. I'm sorry, but this is not a place for fandom, this is an encyclopedia. P.S. I have removed and refactored the personal attack levied by User:Purplebackpack89 as per WP:NPA official policy. JBsupreme (talk) 03:02, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- I believe you've been outvoted on this. By the way, JBsupreme is that editor, and he is drawing my ire with the personal attacks HE has levied on ME. Purplebackpack89 (talk) 03:08, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- You can't just "outvote" somebody to completely disregard policy. Decisions on Wikipedia are made by consensus following policies, not vote. Rwiggum (Talk/Contrib) 05:15, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- I know that. I'm not stupid. However when an outcry by multiple sources to put content back is requested, it gets put back, and until an article on List of Saturday Night Live Impressions is created, I think that all the impressions list should stay. I have put in a request for that article to be written. I think many people would read that article, as they read the impressions list before they were narrowmindedly deleted, and therefore either it should be created or the impressions lists on the pages should be kept, trivia or no trivia. Purplebackpack89 (talk) 05:48, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- Purplebackpack89 you might want to create such a list, so as to offset the trivia being added to this and other articles, provided such a list meets our content guidelines and policies. It may be nominated for deletion at a later point, but I'm sure if you can demonstrate that multiple publications are taking note of such content the community may deem it to be notable. Your thoughts? JBsupreme (talk) 01:28, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well, for starters, it would take forever, because there have been hundreds of impressions by dozens of cast members. At various times, specific impressions have permeated the media(Ferrell's Bush, Fey's Palin), but by no means all. Might be an interesting summer project Purplebackpack89 (talk) 04:05, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Full name
On The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Samberg stated that his name is actually Andrew David Samberg (no mention of the "J"). The California Birth Records list him as David A J Samberg. He said he was "from" Berkeley (which is plausible, since the Records list him as born in Alameda County). Then Samberg and Leno proceeded to show various (fake) screenshots from the Wikipedia page of clearly incorrect information that Samberg would say is true. Obviously, the whole thing was a comedy skit, so I wouldn't take his mention of his birth name seriously. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 07:10, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Andy Samberg's name is not David Andrew J. Samberg. If you go on California Births his name is stated as 'SAMBERG, DAVID AJ' In the most recent (October 2012) edition of Empire Magazine it states the following: Samberg would like to point out that his name is Andrew David Samberg. And not, as per Wikipedia, David Andrew Samberg.
He also states that he wishes the wikipedia user who keeps changing his first name to David to "get hit by a bus" Jonathan131987 (talk) 13:09, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

"Can someone please get my name right? There's some person out there who keeps changing it back. I want that person to get hit by a bus. I know that sounds harsh, but I mean it."
- This would seem to be a reliable source, quite distinct from the mentioned comedy skit, which would seem to indicate we have his name wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.90.59.253 (talk • contribs) 13:36, 6 September 2012

Name change
The reference cited in the article for Andy's name, [1], lists it as Andrew David Samberg. Now, I could have sworn it was different earlier this year but this is what it says right now. I believe it said "David Andrew J. Samberg" although it does not say that now. I don't want to start a conflict but the name has to reflect the cited ref. If anyone can find a reliable source for "David Andrew J. Samberg" please add it in. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:06, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- Well, you're not imagining it. In 2016, it said "David Andrew J. Samberg", and now it says "Andrew David Samberg". I don't know what that's about, and I don't know if Us Weekly is even a reliable source for a BLP. This confusion over his name makes me doubt it even more. I think maybe we should just get rid of everything but "Andy Samberg", which we know is what he calls himself. It would finally solve this whole "David Andrew" vs "Andrew David" thing. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 00:22, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- Glad to know I'm not going crazy . I agree with everything you said. I feel like this reference is right up there with famousbirthdays.com. I don't object to just using Andrew Samberg. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:33, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
The problem arose because somebody had found this entry at californiabirthindex.org. All of this made me curious about how Samberg identifies himself when he registers his material at the copyright office. And I found that he identifies himself either as "Andrew Samberg" or as "Andrew D. Samberg". (For the latter, see this listing.) So, how about I add the Copyright Office listing as a source, but keep the US Weekly as documentation of the fact that the "D" stands for "David"?
By the way, none of this precludes the possibility that Samberg might have been born under one name but had it changed later. Nor does it preclude the possibility that the BirthIndex site is accurately reporting a mistake made in the birth certificate. But without reliable sourcing of either possibility, we probably should just go with the Copyright Office information (along with US Weekly). NewYorkActuary (talk) 01:15, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- WP:BLPPRIMARY says not to use primary sources like this. No, I think we should just use "Andy Samberg" and get rid of all the other stuff. biography.com says his name is "David Andrew", other sources say "Andrew David", and various primary sources (which, as I've said, are not allowed by policy) conflict with each other. The solution is to simplify and report what we know to be true, not to speculate on what we think may be true. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 13:10, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

- Unfortunately, we do not name minors unless it is important to the entire article per WP:BLPPRIVACY, WP:BLPNAME, and WP:MINORS. It is for their own protection. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:35, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
