Not a Commentary

[edit]

This article is not a Biblical Commentary, it is an encyclopedic article. Please don't turn it into one. Coffeeboy 15:13, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And yet that is what this article is. Relaying the opinions of a bunch of irrelevant yahoos as to the meaning of this fairy tale is far from encyclopedic. 2600:8802:571B:E00:409E:BB90:A5D9:DE62 (talk) 05:34, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nocebo

[edit]

I think the fact that Nocebo is in the Related area is unappropriate, and it should be removed

revisions

[edit]

I added the text of the story, using the American Standard Version text, as it appears to be public domain. As such, the section "The Lie" was redundant, as it told the story, and I removed it.

Also I added a small section "Meaning". The story came to my attention when a friend heard it as a reason not to be dishonest in a Bible study group and told me about it.--Andymussell 19:58, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation

[edit]

How is the name Ananias pronounced? uh-NANE-ee-us? Flapdragon (talk) 16:44, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, An-uh-NAI-us (/ˌæn ə ˈnaɪ əs/). Thanks for the question. - Fayenatic (talk) 18:35, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Strictly accurate...

[edit]

"They agreed to give a certain proportion of the money to the apostles, but to say that it was the whole amount." I don't see anything in the Bible implying that they said to Peter that they were giving the whole value of their land. As I read it, they showed up with some money and said "Here, this is for you." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mongoose1021 (talkcontribs) 20:36, 1 March 2009

Verse 8 makes it explicit in Sapphira's case. I don't think the article needs to be changed. - Fayenatic (talk) 16:31, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tone of article?

[edit]

The tone of the last paragraph here doesn't seem strictly neutral. The idea that Ananias and Sapphira were forced to sell their property isn't a certainty based on the text alone. It seems like an arbitrary commentary statement that doesn't need to be there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.70.207.201 (talk) 03:58, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Allegations against Saint Peter

[edit]

I have read certain allegations against Saint Peter, namely that Ananias and Sapphira did not merely die on the spot, but were actually killed by Peter's order. Even though there is probably no way to prove this allegation, it still stands out as one of the possibly controversial interpretations of this passage. It might be a good thing if appropriate sources could be cited which mention this interpretation. [1][2][3][4][5] ADM (talk) 07:57, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

no way to prove this allegation
Since the event is completely fictional. 2600:8802:571B:E00:409E:BB90:A5D9:DE62 (talk) 05:32, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Communism

[edit]

No mention of the invocation of this passage by Christian Communists in support of communism as God's mandated redistribution? Oddly a lapse for an encyclopedia which strives for comprehensiveness. DeistCosmos (talk) 18:33, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not really - all our articles are communal efforts, there's no way of ensuring everything significant gets into an article outside of our rating system. Why don't you find some sources meeting our criteria at WP:RS and add it? Dougweller (talk) 22:06, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
