[edit]

The format on the last edit by Cbdorsett needs to be corrected per the Manual of Style. Each entry should be a sentence fragment separated by a comma, such as:

I'll give the user a chance to make the correction; if not I'll perform a revert. GridEpsilon 18:07, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are many aditional forms of analysis, perhaps infinitely many, but some outstanding one are : historical ( as in time lining ), structural, functional. spacial, chemical, formal, Fruedian,...Please try to make your own lists. wblakesx~~

Last sentence probably needs to be rewritten, but I don't have anything handy at the moment. DMDyou are a meany

Should probably also be changed to reflect the non-mathematical meanings of Analysis -- LMS^H^H^HGWO

"the investigation of relations and deriving properties about it." That sounds like it could just as easily be a definition of the theory of relations, which is a branch of logic. As a definition, it's also just not informative at all... I would help but I'm not a mathematician.  :-) --LMS

I think the article was originally written by a non-native english speaker (I know which type 'cause I have proofed so many journal papers, but I will keep that to myself  ;).

There is something -off- in the tone of this entry. It reads more like a course plan, than an encyclopedia entry. RoseParks

Is this word applied to literary pieces as well?

[edit]

Is the analysis of a literary piece of work (like a poem, short story or novel) is also called "analysis", or is there another word for it? This aspect is not mentioned in the article. Adam78 11:38, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

As someone who works in literature I'd tend to say 'interpretation' or 'criticism' rather than analysis, which sounds overly scientific. The reason i'd shy away from 'analysis' is that there are lots of different possible interpretations of a piece of literary writing. Poppi12 19:29, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

YES, PLEASE "confuse" this with "Analytic"

[edit]

Someone should change that header, say to "see also 'Analytic'", even if for some reason Wikipedia wants to retain the two articles. Needless to say, it's the same concept. Oy.

Same, except for the fact that this particular article is way wrong as it stands. The invention of analysis as a method of approaching problems in natural philosophy lies at the root of all modern science, making it one of the most critical advances of humankind. Analysis cannot and should not be identified with mathematics alone.

I know, one instance of analysis has the key link - but not where people will actually branch off. So I've put in a second link where it will be obvious to users. Ndaniels (talk) 18:21, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
