Requested move 16 June 2022

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus the footballer's name doesn't usually include "María" and the Bolivian politician can be moved. (closed by non-admin page mover) Vpab15 (talk) 10:44, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ana María Romero de CamperoAna María Romero – Currently redirects to much less well know person than what most people will be searching. Husband's last name is unnecessary in Campero's article and is usually omitted in common Spanish use, including her Spanish language article. This is a contested technical request (permalink). — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 05:25, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, could you please give some evidence that the other person is less well known? (I'm not saying she isn't) Dr. Vogel (talk) 05:25, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Based on daily page views, both are actually about even (save for a spike for Ana Romero that I assume is related to some sports event). However, I believe that most people searching the term "Ana María Romero" will be looking for the politician not the footballer. A search for "Ana María Romero" on Google gives several results for the politician and none for the footballer, for example. Krisgabwoosh (talk) 18:00, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • The footballer does lead the page views however Ana María Romero on Twitter goes by Ana Romero Moreno “Willy” – there's no "María" there – and her Spanish wiki title is Ana Romero Moreno (no "María" there either). It was bad form by Krisgabwoosh to submit this as a technical request without first bypassing the redirects from Ana María Romero to the footballer, which I've now done. (there were 10 articles making that link). Spanish naming conventions can be confusing to English readers – the idea that someone can be primary topic for a short form of their name but a longer form of the primary topic's name is ambiguous or primary for someone else. But I'm not inclined to second guess the judgement of their native-language Wiki editors. – wbm1058 (talk) 14:39, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The Twitter link says "Ana María Romero de Campero" but goes to Ana Romero's account. I assume you mean the other way around? I just wanted to make sure. Aside from that, you're correct, I should have gone and bypassed the redirects on other articles. By any chance, is there are tool that shows when a redirect is used? I'm not familiar with any but I assume there must be. Krisgabwoosh (talk) 22:50, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just made the Twitter link using a template: {{Twitter|aromero7willy}} – I was noting the name she used on her own account (did not include "María"). That template just uses the current title of this page. Special:WhatLinksHere. You can find a link "What links here" under "Tools" on the left margin of any Wikipedia page. Links to Ana María Romero in mainspace – just one now, from the notice of requested move. – wbm1058 (talk) 02:33, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
