Character details
[edit]According to the LA Times, Green's protagonist, April, is bisexual. I wanted to add this to the plot summary, but hesitated. Based on both Green's and Dutton's comments about April's story, it seems like more than just a small detail. In other words, April isn't an art student who just happens to be bi, but her being bi is a central theme of the novel. Maybe I am reading too much into the comments, which I admit are not lengthy or detailed, and the reason for my hesitation. Should it be added to the plot summary? Perhaps to the publication history as well? I'm interested to read what other editors think. Writethisway (talk) 16:40, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
- I've heard an excerpt of the book (as part of a charity campaign) and it's certainly referenced quite frankly in the first chapter. I don't know how important it is to the overall story, but I would not hesitate to consider it 'notable'. Radagast (talk) 19:48, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
- In that case, and if no other editors object, I will add it, as well as the source. Thanks. Writethisway (talk) 22:24, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
- I just realized I had already added the source in question to the lead, so I didn't add a second citation in the plot section. Writethisway (talk) 22:30, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
Publication history
[edit]In the New York Times article cited in the "publication history" section, it says that Hank started working on the novel in 2012 ("about six years ago" is what the article says) but on his personal Twitter he stated that he started working on it in 2014 - see Tweet and subsequent replies from January 18, 2018. From reading the NYT article and his Tweets, it seems as though he got the idea for the novel in 2012, but didn't actually start writing it until 2014, and/or started writing other projects but later abandoned them for AART. Is this a relevant enough distinction to make on the page? alohaprincess (talk) 19:44, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
